I have heard of lots of 1275's installed in a bugeye, but not 1500's. I understand that the 1275 is almost a drop-in. Is the 1500 as easy an install? If so, is there any reason not to do it?

It requires quite a bit of alteration and doesn't have all the performance goodies of a 1275. And... it is a triumph motor.

I have the 1500 Midget. Also have a 1275 Midget I use to drive. I wouldn't even think of using the 1500. Use the 1275. Maurice

The architecture of the 1500 is reversed in relation to the "A' series engine ( 948, 1098 or 1275 ), so it is not an easy swap..........and it's a Triumphengine.

A nicely tuned 1275 is the way to go, I had a buddy back in the day with a 1275 in his Bugeye.. He did a few mild performance mods to the engine & the little car would scoot!

I agree with what everyone has said. I've had both and the 1500 isn't bad, BUT the 1275 is lighter and revs way better (hence more fun).

Swapping in a 1500 isn't worth the effort. If you want more power swap in a Toyota A series or a Mazda 12A. The latter requires the least amount of work and won't eat into the passenger foot well. But you will need a better radiator and oil cooler.

If you are in the U.K. or can find one of the two Sterlings which managed to survive Frontline offers a K series swap kit. You could also import a K-series from the U.K. they go for ~$1500 usd before shipping.

The 1500 is not nearly as well designed as the A series. I have a older Toyota Hemi in mine and have seen older Toyota fuelies with twin cams installed....VERY quick...
