Gentlemen. After trying several options to correct erratic difficulty in shifting, I bought the Vic Brit box rebuild kit (layshaft with pin bearings, front and middle ball bearing, syncros, and cage bearing and gaskets.

I have the box broken down on the bench. The only obvious thing I can find wrong is the reverse gear and reverse idler gear teeth are chewed up and the two main ball bearings were sloppy. The old syncros look OK asside from some rounding of the teeth on the face of each.

The bushing float on third gear is larger than spec but the fit of 2 & 3 bushings when on the shaft with the spring clip is to spec. Not sure what that means.

The old layshaft looks great but I will put the new one in and replace the pin bearings on the laygear.

Am I missing something? I'm afraid the new reverse gears and Vic Brit parts arnt going to do the trick. I was expecting the syncros to be warn, and to find more obvious visual wear, etc. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.
