Hi I found a set of 15 inch wheels. The seller says they came off a 73 Bgt and measure 15x6 is this too wide to fit in wheel wells? I have a set of 195-65-15 tire laying around with 30 mile on them. Perfect for the "B" heres a picture.

Probably...but a lot depends on the wheel offset.

195 65 15 is going to be an awfully tall tire for an MGB on 15s. I think the stock circumference for 14s is 195 60 14.

Stock for 14's is 175-70-14. If you go up to a 15" tire you should probably be running a 60 series tire not 65. That's not to say the 65s won't work. I have never tried them. Maybe someone who has can tell you.

Too tall?....not really. I run 195SR6515's on K&R Minilyte replicas on two of my MGCs....and 205VR65-15's on SUperlites on the B/GT.

Stock for an MGB was originally 155-14 (Bias ply)...then 165SR14. I think the LEs ran 175SR14 or 185SR14.

As Rick said, offset/back spacing will be critical. I've got 195/60x15" on SAAB/Shelby rims with no problem. However, 195/65x15" is getting to be a lot of tire to fit in there! Check for yourself, compared to a 175/70x14" at:-

Are those wheels chrome plated steel? Consider the wheel/tire weight, too. :)

Why not borrow one and have one of your tires installed on it and try it on your car? Try is on all four corners because often the rear axles are not centered. All you have to lose is the cost of mounting and maybe dismounting

I'm running 205 70 15's on my '78 MGB. I like the ride height and it sure feels like it grips the road well. It is like using a 3.6 rear end instead of a 3.9. I initially went in this direction to get the effect of better driveline final ratio, since I've got a 3.1 V6 in the car and would prefer a 'taller' rear end ratio.
It may be that your car is not tall enough for clearance with this tire size, since I guess yours is a CB car. Mine is a RB car, so the body is essentially raised above the axels by an inch (more than the chrome bumper ones).

You won't know for sure till you do a trial fit and a TRIAL DRIVE but as mentioned wheel offset is the first issue and lateral rear axle movement the second.. I fitted 195x70x14 to mine. I first fitted one tire and wheel (Dayton 14x5) only and inspected the car carefully on a hoist, especially at the left rear. All seemed fine so I bought and fitted all four and drove away. I get rubbing on the rear wheel arch on both sides, especially on the left with not a lot of provocation. There's a surprising amount of lateral movement in the rear axle of an MGB. (Fitting poly bushes and pads have helped but not cured the problem and I'm hesitating about a Panhard rod)

I just took a look at the tire I have, they are 185/65/15. I left a message with seller requesting backspace and offset.

Not at all. 195/65/15 is perfect. 205/65/15 was good too, but rubbed during hard cornering in the rear, but only because of the offset of my wheels.

But I think those are some seriously ugly wheels. They might be okay polished or painted, but that style was never one I liked either. Usually see that style on old 4x4 trucks.

im getting 15x6 replica minilights for my 79 mgb lowered. i was thinking of runing 195/55/15 's. i think they will fit ok. has anyone tried that combo?

Lot's have run 195/60x15" and taller. Again, it often comes down to the offset of the wheel. Too much one way, it'll rub inside, too much the other and it rubs the inside.

The difference between 60 and 55 series is negligible. Nominally, 5% of 195.mm, i'e. <10mm (~3/8").

60 series dia. would be 24.21"
65 series would be 24.98"
Stock is 24.2

Your speedometer will read slow if they fit.
