I am putting a 1800 MGB 5-main in my MGA. I understand that the 5 main water pump is different from the 3 main water pump. From what I can tell, the prevailing wisdom is to use the short version pump with spacers to put the fan close to the radiator.

Can anyone speak to this from experience?
