Yep, pitch it. Get the Fel-Pro/Payen head gasket. Available at Advance Auto, etc. under the Fel-Pro brand, p/n 21183C, about 28 bucks... ;)

Thanks Dick, I will send photo's of where I am at, is it a huge job doing front and rear seals on the tran while its out?? Thanks

Not at all. Front seal is in the front gearbox housing that incorporates the boss where the clutch fork attaches. Just remove the fork and the housing retaining nuts (7/16 IIRC...) and washers, and pull the cover off, being careful to note that there are shims behind the cover. Upon reassembly, coat the shims with a little grease to hold them in place. If they come out damaged, which they sometimes do, replace them with shims of the same thickness.

The rear seal just comes out with a seal puller or slide hammer, although they can be stubborn sometimes. Just tap the new one in until it's flush. Coat the lips of both seals with a little grease to prevent damage from dry start-up.

Check me on the fasteners; now that I think of it they're probably half inch...

I'm planning to use a cheap head gasket set that has been sitting around here too long when I do the 70. They will work, just more fuss.

I don't think the coper gasket is a total piece of junk, but the black Payen/Felpro is big improvment, and if one was to use a copper head gasket, then yes, you would need to coat it for sure. X2 what Dick said about the black Payen gasket, just put it on dry.
