1964 MGB
MK 1 Pull-handle roadster
Vehicle Description:
As the pictures indicate this MGB is currently in long-term hibernation in an aircraft hangar. It can run and drive, but by no means a driver or close to a driver. The 5 main bearing engine operates with good oil pressure and compression, no smoke or other noticeable problems. Plenty of power. Transmission works for what I was able to use it for. Brakes and clutch seem to work pretty well. The starter and choke and all that stuff worked for me. It’s painted in the most hideous color possible, which probably saved some of the body. The original color was Olde English White. Wire wheels.
Rust:
Rust is an issue on this vehicle. However, it was originally purchased three years ago because it actually a little less than typically rusty in my opinion. (I looked for years to find the best pull-handle MGB I could afford). The outer rockers have been butchered and the PO had put stilly covers over them. I have removed the covers, and it looks nasty. The floors have been removed by the PO. This is the worst part of the car as they did a poor job of removing them, but it is salvageable. The inner rockers are solid, underneath the rockers is solid, the jacking points still exist. The rear crossemember needs to be replaced. The front fenders are poor, salvageable if you didn’t want to buy new ones. The rear wheel arches are showing rust. The trumpets in the front wheel well area are bad. Someone fabricated battery boxes. The rear trunk floor is good. The main front frame structure is good. The spring hangers are good. The doors are petty good. The car was hit in the rear and that needs to be dealt with. The hood has stilly tie down peg holes like a 60’s muscle car.
Issues:
Rust and the Body; do-able for someone with a MIG welder, nothing special here. I am not just saying this, it really is an easy deal with British Motor Heritage sheet metal.
Interior:
Original low-back seats with decent upholstery, bottoms are new. I have the rare door rails. I have all the pull-handle hardware. The dash is in good shape, no serious butchering (I think there is a funny cigarette lighter though). I have no carpet and only one door panel.
OKAY…… Now for the good stuff!
Extra 18GB engine
Extremely rare D-type overdrive transmission; correct for this car.
Factory Hardtop in good, restorable condition.
2 Extra pull-handle doors fully assembled
1 Extra trunk lid in good shape
1 Extra aluminum hood in good shape
1 Extra steel dash with all the accessories good shape
1 Banjo OEM steering wheel
1 vintage wood rimed steering wheel in decent shape
Brand new vinyl top
Brand new tonneau cover
1964 OEM folding top, not the stow-away type
Brand New cloth wrapped wiring harness
Some new chrome exterior trim
1 new floor pan (I used the other on another car)
1 new front apron
Various other replacement sheet metals
5 extra wire wheels and 2 front hubs
3 extra tachometers
2 extra speedometers
LOTS of stuff to make this car very special.
If desired I can include a home-made rotisserie for the body.
Reason for selling:
I am a college student. I love restoring cars just like this one. I bought this car two years ago with the intention of making a perfect pull-handle MGB. I have since been bogged down studying Mechanical Engineering and two other British cars and have lost time and money for this car. I love this MGB, I want to restore it in the worst way. I spent countless hours on the internet and road trips finding all the precious bits to make this car really something. I have parted out multiple cars to get the parts I need to restore this car. I need the money from this car for school and I need to sell it with ALL the extras. I am also losing my hangar space this winter.
Logistics and price:
THIS CAR IS A FULL RESTORATION PROJECT
The price for this car is $4000. I cannot lower the price. I am assuming $2000 for the car and $2000 for all the extra stuff and parts. I am not trying to make anything on this sale.
I live in Corning, NY which is just north the PA border in about mid state. I am completely open for anyone to come look at what I have, just give me some notice so I can arrange things at the airport (where it is stored)
I might even be persuaded to help transport the vehicle some undetermined distance.

More engine pics,
One of the engine in the car and the serial number plate off the spare.
I don't really know, I am guessing 15". If you want it its only $4000 and it comes with a whole lot of extras !!!!!
MOSS wants $3,699.00 for a rebuilt 62-64 overdrive transmission, ($3,199.00 for a 65-67, depending which engine you use for this car).
Add $301.00 and you get an entire car, with years of pleasurable restoration ahead of you :-)
Not for me with my current project, but interesting.
Paul
I WTB a hardtop (see my Trader forum post). Is that a straight-leg Skylane or Centurion in the background? I used to fly Centurions on my old nite checks job.
Not to be picky, but that doesn't look like an original steering wheel to me. Or did I misunderstand?
Also, key word for the Moss overdrive is "rebuilt". I think used but not rebuilt overdrives go for quite a bit less, although still more than I can afford!
Anyway, good luck selling it!
I have plenty of OEM spoked steering wheels that go with this car.
The overdrive is indeed un-rebuilt (as the pics indicate). But its in good shape from my precursory inspections; better than average. I have 3 other non-overdrive 3-sycro transmissions that go with the car to make sure you can make one out of the 4. The D-type overdrive is far and way the rarest MGB transmission to find. Only something like 5% of the cars sold in north America (63-67) were equipped with this gear box. I wouldn't let this gearbox go alone for less than $1250.
I have been dealing with MG's for many years now and I promise you all the above car is a decent deal and you won't be disappointed. Feel free to PM me or add to this thread.
I appreciate your comments and please spread the word on my MGB For sale.
:-)
I would sell the D-type separate but I think I would be better off selling all I have as one package for someone who wants a complete car with all the goodies for resto.
