I have a loose steering column in my 70 GT. I need to fix this.

It would appear and feel that there are some bushings worn out that allow some lateral play between the column and the housing. I see that Moss sells a kit to fix later columns, but not mine. I can machine new bushings and make something work, but I was wondering if anyone else has figured a way to fix this? Maybe the moss kit will work on my column?

2nd Paul's recomendation.

I installed one and it cured 90% of of the problem

LBC May have one left as well (I think they had 2 when I bought mine last summer). If they don't have the top bushing only they have another kit that contains the top bushing and some other pieces that you may or may want to replace.

PS: The rest of the play was adjusted out by removing a shim that resides under the cap in the steering rack.

If Gerry doesn't I still have two kits left that I haven't gotten around to using.

Just sent you the instructions for installing Gerry Masterman's bushing kit. You can see if it's going to do what you are looking for. Did it on my '68 and if you do it and have trouble just email me.

I still have a few top bushing kits on hand. If anyone was interested in sending me their column I will repair it as needed, as well. If anyone needs my help shoot me an email at gmaster@lsu.edu I do not sign in here often enough for PMs to be a reliable means of communication

Cool-

I can't check my home email at work, but it sounds like we have a solution. The steering rack is good, it's the bushings in the column. I have re-done the rack, and the u-joint. I just have these embarrassingly loose bushings!

Chris- Once I read my emails, I might PM you. I am interested.

I have a rebuilt GEM column, no slop, slick movement very well done. I'd take Gerry up on his offer to rebuild one for you.
