I have posted recently about a midgrt for sale in central mo. I have decided not to make an offer. I did spend an afternoon with the car. I pointed out to the present owner, several items that would make the car worth less than his asking price of $2,500.00. He is asking this amount simply because that is what he paid for it two years ago. If any one has an interest i can steer you in his direction. I have nothing to gain. The midget needs a new home and i am not ready or need another car. I have about 15 -7 meg. pictures i can sent you if interested. PM me if interesred in the pictues or this persons phone number. One of his motivations to sell would be, insurance is due the middle of nov. Leon Carpenter

If the shell is as solid as it seems, and would be a non-bdywork project, I have to say 2500 is fair enough. You do insinuate that it drives by telling us you spent time with it. Many of us pay more for much worse!

Pete,So far I have had 79 people view my last post. You are the only reply so far. This causes me to wonder about the value of these cars. I read posts with statements such as(for around $2,000.00 in parts and services you should be able to rebuild an mgb engine). Here we have a decent midget that starts, stops, drives good, clean wheels, good tires, doesn't need interior etc. It does need a top however and a few minor details attended to. I just don't want a midget at this time. I thought some one would. Leon Carpenter :S

You might have noticed that as a group we are not the most rational or logical people on the planet. I have had this illness for 34 years, and while no cure has been found, I do have a deep appreciation and sense of irony that keeps me entertained.

You may have seen post on my bugeye project that would explain why I value a solid start to a project?

The car looks very nice to me, and looks to be worth 2500.
It's just that I am only about half interested in anything newer than 1974.
I don't dislike the newer cars, I am just more familiar with, and prefer the A-Series-CB cars.

I'm sure it has value to someone. Most of us already have one (or more!).

I happen to have a rational wife who has some crazy rule about a total of 12 cars on the property ;)

We also, as a general rule, like to tinker so basket cases tend to make our eyes all teary and droopy and our wallets, unexpectedly, jump into our hands!

:bouncing:Well said!

I tend to look at LBC's as valuless. By this I mean, they have no absolute need for being; they are not a modern necessity, they are not shelter, or food, or a good tradable commodity for food or shelter. They are an unnecessary luxury. And with all unnecessary luxuries they are only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for them. They are a hobby and a passion. They are our hobby and passion. I have heard more people over the years say, "I wont take less than $xx.xx, because I spent that much in upgrades and repairs". Yet, when they 'trade' their utilitarian daily family auto, they may take an 80% cost cut from what they paid for it originally; why? because in a competitive, forward moving, resale market, no one will give them what their buy cost was, and no one will pay them for their upkeep, maintenance, and upgrades. Usually these same folks will spend thousands on non-recouperable expenses such as trips, vacations, consumable sports equipment, entertainment, etc., and think nothing of it, but think a finicky old LBC is somehow an investment for the future (?):eyeroll:. Most likely the reason no one has bought that car posted is because a person ready to buy hasnt come across it yet. This is the secret car dealers and realtors know......it only takes one person, the buying person, who lays down the cash to make a sale. Everyone else is window shopping.

There is wisdom in your words for shure. I also have a 1971 midget. If it was restored I would be happy to drive it from time to time. They are better looking with more power. I just don't lust after spreading bondo and sniffing paint fumes:spinning: Leon Carpenter
