Hi guys, just found the site as it was recommended by someone. I am trying to sell a 1979 MGB. Here are the details.

1979 MGB
10,8xx original miles - actual, confirmed with original owner (who owned until earlier this year).

White exterior with black top and black interior.

Top is brand new.

Interior is excellent.

Exterior has had one repaint 15 yrs ago. It is in very nice shape as the car was garaged.

I have just rebuilt the carb (Zenith Stromberg CD175), replaced the starter, new water pump, new plugs, wires, dist cap, rotor button, valve cover gasket, adjusted valves, new hoses, new temp sending unit, new brake lines, etc.

All work was done by myself to get the car in good roadworthy shape as it was sitting and only used off and on over the years. It was kept at the original owners lake house for a summer vehicle.

Body is excellent with NO rust what so ever.

Tires are excellent.

Cars runs, drives and shifts great.

Asking price is a VERY reasonable $7500..

You can email me at pier1122@bellsouth.net for any further info or reply here.

Thanks for the space!! Looks like a great site!

Is the price out of line? Figured it would get alot of interest at this amount. I need to sell it.

Prices are pretty hard to evaluate when you're only looking at pictures. Rubber bumper cars appeal to some and not to others, but the low mileage and good condition of that are very appealing. The later MGB's of that era were a bit smog-strangled and lower in hp than earlier cars, so that might work against you a little. White is the very best color, I would say, for an MGB. :) There are always pro's and con's. But, it's a nice looking car, for sure.

The market for extra cars is a bit slow now with the recession but may pick up as the weather warms up. You might get interest on Ebay, too, and a bigger audience. Who knows if it would sell for that much money. Maybe. Good, solid MGB's can sell for $4K and $5K with really nice ones going up from there, and that price might turn out to be just right. In your area, price might be less than in, say, California where the demand might be greater. But, who really knows. Spectacular ones sell for $10K at times, though not many of those.

One picky suggestion would be to polish up the rubber bumpers so they shine and give a "new" car look. I'd use pictures taken in better light. That light is too bright and washes out the car. Earlier and later in the day gives a warmer light. You might try shooting the pictures more from the level of the car or looking up more, especially at the front, and not looking down on it so much (Don't use my car pic as a guide!). Check Ebay for ideas on that. Good pictures sell the car -- the sizzle on the steak and all that. Good luck.

Warren,

It's a good price, but because it is more money than you often see the Rubber Bumper cars for you might have to wait a tiny bit for the right buyer. Many buyers in the market are looking for cheaper cars, but if this car is half as good as it looks and you describe, you should easily be able to sell it. Just remember that the average RBB buyer on the MG Experience is looking for a fixer-upper bargain, not a pristine car at a fair price. Give it a little time and you will find a buyer at your price.

It is a good price indeed and that's a nice looking car. The issue is not so much the price, it's who wants to spend that kind of money right now. It looks very original, I'd like to take a bunch of detailed pictures of it.

I hope you were not in the area that was flooded the last couple of days.

Tom, I see you are in Hoover, I live in Helena. My area got alot of water but my house is in Dearing Downs way up on a hill so no worries!

Everyone else. I appreciate your insight and suggestions. The car is very nice with only a few changes I can find from original, i.e. fuel pump, dist cap, rotor button, wires, plugs, valve cover gasket, water pump, some hoses, tires, top, rear package area carpet, shift knob (I have the original) etc.

Mostly all general maintenance/wear items.

Warren,
For the mileage I feel that is an excellent deal. What most of us that have done this before learn too late that to get a $4000 car to that stage often takes more than $3500. Unfortunately the resale on a RB car that you drive will not recoup the money invested so you need someone more interested in showing it as a low milage original. Best of luck

I think it's a great price. This isn't the place to get any money though. Seems everyone here would rather buy one for 2 grand and spend another 10 and still not have what you have at 7500.:D I'd try Craigs, Ebay and Classic Car Trader. You can do a classifed on ebay that does a 200mile radius for free with no selling fee. Good luck.

That looks like a nice clean car. Craigslist seems to be a good place to sell them these days. I have seen several guys on this website who are strictly interested in fixin 'em and then getting rid of them. Point being, they enjoy working on them more than anything else. Great looking car, you may want to try and submit it to www.bringatrailer.com. They like to deal with the unique ... good luck!

No one on this board actually drives MGs, we just take them apart and spend money on them. What you are selling is a driver and quite well priced if it is as nice in the flesh. Other than to jam a V8 in there, I can't think of any reason to take it apart.

A good way to sell a car like that is to drive it to a show and stick the For Sale sign on it. Sadly, I see a lot of organizers charging for a "Car Corral" if you want to sell at the show. Best to check before going.

that is a nice car from what I see. I suspect it does not have overdrive, but some will ask. Best of luck!

Maybe you can find a way to keep it, and really get the disease!

I would love to keep it but with a 5yr old and 1-1/2yr old son, it just isn't practical for the wife and I right now.

Oh, and it does not have overdrive, just the standard 4 spd.

I have a sale 'pending'. Just waiting on his bank.

Thanks!
