Pics if at all possible please.

If it is black with side stripes and odd looking wheels it is an LE and will command a premium.

On the other hand you can get on eBay and see what the going rate seems to be for 79 and 80 models and add a bit for the really low mileage.

On the third hand you could low ball the guy at seven or eight thou and see what happens. LOL

How does it run? What is the condition of all the rubber bits and hoses? Have you checked for rust? What's in the gas tank? Do all the electrical components work?

If it gone from Craig's list, it was probably a scam and got pulled.

I bought a 77B with 12500 miles a couple of months ago.

Vehicle Description

I am selling this wonderful 1977 MGB that I bought from my friends father. He is the second owner and has owned it since 1979. When he purchased it, the car had around 10,000 miles on it. The car was covered in his garage for ten years and only driven on nice Sundays to church. The car spent another 17 years in his daughters garage.

Within the last four months I have done the following: New water pump, New Brakes, Brake hoses and Master Cylinder.

The car was also tuned up with new plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor.

Timing checked and is good.

Engine was compression tested and the results were excellent.

The valve cover was removed to adjust the valves and to replace the valve cover gasket. A careful inspection revealed a super clean engine confirming the 12,450 miles the car has on it.

A new original SU fuel pump was recently installed.

The 175CD carb was rebuilt.

New belts

New tires.

New Dash light rheostat.

Wheels refurbished (painted) with New trim rings from Victoria British and center caps.

New exhaust falcoln stainless

The car is a beauty and you will be proud to drive this car.

This car comes with a factory hard top. The hardtop has a lot of scratches.

He have spent about $1800 in NEW parts and about 80 plus hours working on this car. If you paid a mechanic for the labor I invested the cost would have been about the same price as the car. You have to do nothing to it except drive!!!

I paid $7,500

I had to put a new gas tank new sender and a weber cab and header on it and it drives great.

This car also came with New York registration that verified the mileage.

I just bought a mint 1980LE for $6k.....I was lucky though the buyer had it saarting at $10k and dropped until I showed up and gave him $500 to hold it and the bal 4 days later. I probably would have paid $8k.
I never looked back.

Hang in there Brian. You haven't seen anything yet.

The Boomers are just starting to come into their own as far as retirement and accumulated wealth is concerned.

Not that I personally ended up with any money at all, but the Boomers as a group are the wealthiest generation ever to walk on the face of the earth. They inherited great gobs of money from their depression era taught parents and were in on the huge economic boom of post WWII. They ended up having about half the number of kids that their parents had and now the want to lay back and enjoy the fruits of their labor and good fortune.

I know what you mean, prices are still way too low!

There is no where for the prices to go but up. They ain't making any more of these cars! Since owning my first B, the prices of parts have almost doubled. Quality parts are getting harder to find

I am not into these cars for the $, I will never see $ that I put into them back. I do it to enjoy the sport.

Still, buying a restoration (a real restoration, not most eBay 'restorations') for $25k is still smart money spent, IMO. There is NO WAY the average owner could properly restore most Bs with that kind of $.

The main problem is there is SO MUCH CRAP out there! Bs with hidden damage/rust being bondo'ed, painted, and sold at 'restorations' that give people a foul taste in their mouth. So I can see how people can be gun-shy about buying a proper restoration for a fair price.

On one hand I'm glad that the value of the cars is not going down - at least one vehicle on my driveway isn't a depreciating asset. But on the other hand, the increase in prices makes my future RB GT purchase more and more difficult!!
