All,
I have a 2002 Pontiac Montana that I lost a set of keys to. Now i only have one key that will start the car. I went and had another one made but it does not start the car only unlocks the doors. Is there a way to overide the system so that you can start the car without the the Passkey III system working? If anyone knows of any tricks i would appreciate it very much. I want to avoid spending 50 dollars for a key at the dealership if possible.
Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give.

If the original ignition key has a magnetic section in it you're sunk.
Your lucky it's only $50 for a key...I paid $150.
I tried everything to beat the system, but in the end, like JDW said, I was sunk.
Better security for you, better security for your dealer's bottom line.
As a locksmith I can say $50.00 is a good (gulp!) price...and there is no way around it.

I got the dealership where i bought the last vehicle to do it for 29.95 after some hard bargaining. It still hurt to pay 30 for a key that cost them about 2 dollars for i imagine.
Check with your insurance company, they may cover it.
Fifty dollars is cheap.
This is a bit off the subject BUT, in case any of you ever have a car's remote door opener die on you, DON'T go to the car dealer to get a new one. A car dealer will usually tell you that you have to have a new one - and then order one for you for over $100. The thing is, those remotes simply take one or two button batteries. Any good Batteries Plus (or equivalent) store will usually open the thing up and replace the batteries for less than $10.
I know this for a fact because one of our son's had a remote die on him while visiting us a month ago and I took him to a Batteries Plus store and they fixed him right up - and it was less than $10.
