Hey guys, can anyone trouble shoot this problem? 2 days ago my area had a little blip with the power and all the clocks went off etc,.. I'm using a digital converter to catch antenna broadcasts with this TV. In the setup menu mode I have a little window upper right corner showing live picture reception and the channel but even though all the usual settings are ok I don't get sound in the setup menu mode and I only get blue screen/no sound when out of menu. Is this a fatal combo? Thanks if you can Help.

Not very high tech but try unplugging everything, wait ten minutes and plug it all back in. It has worked for me in the past many times with our satilite.
Bern, try to find the exact model number of your screen and do a Google search for the symptoms.
"Mitsubishi XXXYYYY blue screen no sound" or "Mitsubishi XXXYYYY picture in preview mode only" for example. Of course, replace XXXYYYY with your actual model number.
I had a very similar situation with my Sony and was able to find a post describing the exact steps to turn down the gain on the green channel which seems to have resolved the issue. Unfortunately, it may only be a temporary fix as most likely the green CRT on mine is going out but it bought me some time.
The second part of the post said, "If this doesn't work, buy a new TV." The cost of having a shop repair it could be more than the cost of a new one for older projection-style TVs. Certainly I will be very hesitant to put more than a couple of hundred dollars into the TV when a brand new 52" plasma is going for $800-$900.
Best of luck, let us know what happens.

A blank or blue screen makes me think that the signal input is set to something other than antennae or cable etc. Something to the effect like you were using the TV in monitor only mode. That or the D/A converter box got smoked. Have you attempted to change the input settings on the TV?

Larry....them sonys can be fixed for 75$ by buying a repair kit off the web....beats paying a shop 400$ to repair, I did it witb my sony projector tv anyhow everyone should have their tvs plugged into surge protectors
Edited for spelling
Thanks for the responses, I did have a surge strip plugged into it but they obviously are only as good as the price you pay for'em. The input is set correctly because the setup menu screen shows a small proof window of a broadcast or picture coming thru the decoder/antenna into the TV. Usually in the past if I had that small pic box showing a broadcast pic with sound, it was ok. I don't have the time to tear into it now and look for somthin fried.
Then walmart are selling 60" flat screen panasonics for $900
