I'm trying to remove the heater box. The unit is loose and lifts about an inch and them gets stuck. Is there anything inside the car I need to disconnect?

Yup - and have a good time. The dash control cable for heat/windscreen operates the flapper valve at the bottom of the heater box. It's clamp is "accessible" through the little door on the passenger side of the bulkhead (inside). It's right where the passenger's left knee would rest. It is a JOY to remove and a double JOY to reconnect. If I'm not mistaken you must remove the little flapper door. Have a few pints before you start.
Anyone ever post any step-by-step instructions on installing a heater box?

This may help.

Yeah, I actually found it easier to undo the cable at the knob under the dash. Also a joy, and you'll likely cut the crap outta your hands, but you only have to be triple-jointed to do it this way.
Thanks guys!
I'll take a look for the cable through the footwell vent.
Alex
I was going to post step by step instructions but the hammer I used to install it wouldn't fit in the photographs!

Got the heater out!
I managed to release the control cable through the vent hole using a selection of adapters and screwdriver bits.
I'm embarassed to say that the main problem was me not removing the vent tubing from inside the car! Oh well it's out and I can now get at the rust below the unit.

I can't remember if the '67 has the hard rubber insulating block surrounding the lower end of the heater box, but if it does - and you opt to replace it - that can be a tough part to play with. Most of the advice on reinserting the box involves some sort of water-based lubricant, but a couple of guys more recently just shaved off a little bit of the rubber on the block. Seems to work okay....
