I am looking for a Mk I B'GT car or shell that is perhaps mechanicaly shot but has no rust in the rear frame and quarter panels. I get scared every time I look at my rear frame members and realize that they have to be replaced. I hate to see another B go to heaven but I don't see how I'll ever manage to replace the frame and quarter panels without messing it up. Unless someone knows a fail safe way of replacing the rear end of a GT. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it could be done, and if it were mine, I would consider the sebring style fiberglass rear fenders and have the structural damage handled by a shop. Not sure if that style rear fender would make the connection on a GT but seems like it would and the look would be cool. Of course the front fenders could be changed to sebring style too once the $ accumulate again after the rear project. The gurus here would know if it could be done. I once bought a VW Karmann Ghia sight unseen, knowing that the rear fenders were bend beyond repair. My idea was to install and modify the fiberglass one-piece baha rear end (made normally for a bug). Projects got piled up and I had to sell before I could get started. Always wondered how it would turn out.
Phew, long winded, aint I?

IF you're willing to spend the bucks, the sheet metal for the whole rear end of the GT is available. The structural members ( rails , battery box, etc) can all be rebuilt or replaced as necessary, all it takes is time, money, and someone who know what they're doing.
At some point the repair costs get to where the purchase of a new BMIHT body shell starts to look good.

You might want to look through

I saw some various shells there...keep your shell and part it out to help pay for a replacement...that's only if you feel yours is too far gone.
