I'm having new VIN plates made for my '69 GT mfr date Aug '69. I currently don't have a dash top plate. As I understand it from Clausager, '69 is a transition year - cars built after 1 Jan '69 should have a dash top plate but still have the under hood plate rather than the door pillar plate. Having said all that, is the dash top plate supposed to be pressed with raised numbers similar to the engine plate, or are the numbers pressed in from the top like the fender VIN tag?

Thanks, but there in lies the problem. He's doing the tags for me and said he thought these tags were typically raised numbers, but wasn't sure if '69 was different. Can any body out there with a late mfr '69 model respond?
The VIN tag on the dash of my 1969 MGC is "pressed in from the top"..."engraved"...rather than having raised number and letters. I have no reason to suspect that this is not the original tag.
Jeff,
I just checked my '69 and both the inner fender and dash plates are punched in from the top side.
Cheers,
Rob
Thanks Rob and Rick. I think that cinches it. I'll pass the word to Todd and hope to get my ID plates back soon.

You can make it 3 pressed from the top. My GT tag looks original.
