Hello all,

Going to be doing the front brakes tomorrow. Any sealant to place on the threads or just are already machined for a tight fit? Hoses are TVS Girling

The threads don't do any sealing and should only be lubricated for corrosion protection. Sealing is performed by the flares in the brake lines, and copper washers where applicable.

Steve, thanks for the reply. I purchased english brake wrenches but non fits snugly and will strip it.

Some of the aftermarket hoses (and flare nuts) have Metric flats for some strange reason. Just use whatever wrench fits snugly, regardless of the size.

Yes, I figure off to "O'Really" auto parts for the metric brake wrenches:(

Thanks for the posts.

Keep in mind this is the only place in the hydraulic systems that crescent wrenches and open end wrenches are ok.

The bolts are odd sizes as I remember.

On all brake lines fittings other than these only use a 6 point socket or flare nut/line wrench. Otherwise it is very easy to damage the brass fittings. Sears has them on sale this week. $30 per set. All MG guys should have a set or two.

Thanks for the tip! I am a Craftsman guy. Most of my tools are such. Decided to stop all and am now looking for new wheel bearings. The former owner before the last(he knew MG's) had put a boot load of general purpose lube on the splines. It was even caked up on the caliper!! It is like that all over the front kingpins ect. YUK! Car was in storage for 6-7yrs. I can't complain....too much. Price was right. I probably will respray the wheels back to silver.

Saturday is a bad day to call around for new things so will have to wait till Monday.
Anyone have a good supplier of such items? I'll need bearings/races/ couple switches, turnsignal switch, some dash bulbs, ect. The personal touch would be nice.

Although there are several fellows on this website that supply parts and great service I have cultivated a relationship with a local guy.

He sells Moss or other outlet parts to obtain the best quality for his customers.

He gives free advice and works on cars. His service is the best. Often I can obtain items in 24 hours or sometimes he has them in stock. He also has some used parts.

While a little more expensive(for new) it is in my interest and yours as well to keep him, and others like him in business.

Bryan, the guy who knew MGs didn't know not to use so much grease. You don't want that much on there for many reasons, partly because it makes a mess and serves no purpose. You also don't want it getting all over the mating surface between hub and wheel because this can cause accelerated wear on the splines.

Steve, it was the guy prior to the one that I bought it from. The guy who knew it was a can 'o WORMS,
He said, he did not have time to work on it. I agree, it needs some upkeep but not to the extent to keep it of the road.

I broke out a 100.00 bill for I did not have a smaller note to get the socket for the wheel bearing. So much for payday, out with the last bill.. The "O'Really" parts guy asked me for my phone # to input in the computer. ?? I should of asked why but I was in a hurry. Since I am a regular, I will ask next time I'm in there why they needed my phone #?
Tired!

Got the socket at O'Really's and figured time to goto Kmart. Got, the 1' 5/16th's for crank turning since they carry Craftsmen now since owned by Sears. Got a small set. I have them all but all in storage somewhere at my work in a bin.
Have the JS dizzy coming in about 2 weeks. Very soon it will be very road worthy:)

Once again, thank you to all you guys for the help and very fast turn around to my questions.
