My neighbor has a 71 BGT, needs some work.
We drove by a late 73 MGB 'parts' car today. Guy wants $350 for it.
Are there enough interchangable parts between the 73B and the 71BGT??
GT need seats, oil sending unit, front valance, wind shield, and more.

73B engine is complete. All gauges in dash, wire wheels sprayed silver.
Hood, quarter panels, doors rust free, wind shield - no chips or cracks
Would it be worth it to part it out? And sell it all.

Don't know if I want it in the drive way, if I'm going to drop $350, and end up
having to haul it off to the crusher.

Almost everything minus the top, windshield, hatch should be interchangeable. Paul

For the bits you mentioned, the seats will fit, but the covers are different (cloth for GT, vinyl for roadster), not that it really matters. The sending unit and valance will be the same, but the windshield is not the same.

GTs are pretty much mechanically all the same, with the exception of the springs and the different wheel cylinders/backing plates. A lot of interior parts like some panels and all of the dash stuff will be the same. A lot of exterior trim is the same as well, but obviously all body parts except for the hood are different, all the window stuff is different, and all of the trim around added on "GT section" is not on a roadster.

I'd keep the O/D.

How would I know if it has an OverDrive????

You'd have to snoop/feel around under the car.

Circled in blue is the overdrive unit. Note it's location, relative to the shifter to make it easier to know where to look under the car. Or you could always try and shoot a few pictures under there blind, if you can't safely lift the car high enough.

If you can get under it look for a large round unit on the rear of the tranny and also two plates undr the bottom. One will have an ID tag on it. Also, look for the yellow wire on the right side of the firewall under the bonnet and see if there is anything plugged into it. If so, it has OD. There should be a sticker on the steering column too. I'll be in Mocksville Monday and can take a look for you. I have a 70GT junker that he may be able to use somethin from. it's real cheap, whole car $120.

Rob, If I buy the car, I'm headed up to my sisters home in Gainsville.
I could bring them up with me.
Lets see what happens.

There were some fundamental changes in 72 as well - the dash, tachometer, and some wiring changes. That's also when the engine when from an 18GK (1971) to an 18V and stayed pretty much the same until '80. Almost all the parts are still interchangeable though.
