Front seats with 1" rolled and pleated done for '72 roadster 16 years ago and I'm installing in this GT. Rear seat is original cloth, and I'm looking at leaving it out. Question is, does the rear shelf pad for a roadster fit the snaps on the GT. One thought is to extend the plywood boot cover with carpet over plywood to make the look consistent. Any other thoughts on what to do concerning the rear shelf will be appreciated.

I saw a picture of a GT on ebay where the rear seat had been remove, and replaced as you describe. It was a GT V8. If you search, there was some detailed pictures.

Say gentlemen, when I bought my '71 GT in '99, it was missing the rear seat and cover. I bought the foam and cover, but can't figure out how or what it is attached to. Could either of you get a picture or describe how the rear seat is assembled?

Jim,

Do you mean what is the structure of the rear seat? Are you looking for the base or the back?

If you have the seat back, extend it to cover the rear shelf. That will give you a ton of extra storage when folded down flat. You will also have hidden storage on top of the shelf, underneath the folded seat back.

This is a photo of my extended seat back folded down. It sits up a couple inches because I still have the seat bottom cusion in place. I like it there as a sound deadener.

Steve, is your headliner still the stock grey/white color? Reason I ask is if so, your GT is set up the same as mine. I covered the rear pillar panels in black because the while color vinyl I bought was a poor match and stuck out like a sore thumb. So far nobody's said anything about the black as it looks fine.

Steve, just curiosity, were the early rear carpets one piece? Also, were the straps standard?

Bill-

Yes exactly - the base. Seems to me it was plywood in my '67 GT, but that was a long time ago.

Rod, the headliner, visors and surround pieces are all ivory. The lower pieces are black.

Tom, the rear is not standard. The straps were added on and the carpet was extended onto the seat back. This design is good when the seat back is folded, which it always is in my car.
