Where is the timing mark supposed to be for a 74b? at the present time it is dead on the third from the left... The HS4's are equally balanced using the synchronizer .. and I still am getting sputtering on acceleration... I've done everything I can think of ... I'm ready to pull my eyes out!

Try the bottom mark (furthest CCW as you face the front of the engine) at idle with the vacuum line disconnected from the carb. Whern you're ready for it to REALLY run like it should, I can make a WORLD of difference with your particular distributor!
You do have the dashpots on the carbs filled, right?

mixture on the carbs?
synching only sets the throttles to each otehr, does nothing for mixture.

Kevin, one more time. Me and Stan are in Murfreesboro. Touch base with one/both of us and the three of us will sort it out. I've got the red SU manual and Stan knows it by heart.
