MGB: 77MGB Hood clearnance for weber downdraft!

I've installed a 38/38 down draft in my 77 MGB. The problem is the air cleaner assembly makes contact with hood in the down position. The gentleman from Brittek suggest that the shims on the engine mounts are the primary factor to this problem. I've been informed they were installed to make clearance for the catalytic converter. I'm running a Peco header and I'm concerned about clearance if I remove the shims. Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a solution. My "B" had two shims intalled on each engine mount. I'm currently considering an alternate gasket between the intake manifold and the carb. I could gain almost 1/4 or an inch. Also cutting a portion of the hood liner for additional clearance.

I have very little clearance between the Weber air cleaner and the bonnet on my 77B. Pulled the shims, and gained about a 32nd of an inch. The air cleaner does not contact the bonnet, but only has about 1/8th of an inch clearance.

Hey thanks for the reply. My concern on removing the shims is clearance on the exhaust. And any advice on how you removed the shims? I'm thinking removing the two bolts on the mounting plates. Elevating the engine and hoping they drop out.

The shims are split, (or at least mine are) just take the weight off the engine mounts - loosen the bolts and they should slide out with a little persuasion.
