The only thing that may not match is the speedometer. It was right around 1974 that they changed from 1280 turns per mile to 1000 turns per mile. If you look at the fine print at the bottom of your speedometer it will probably have a bunch of numbers. If there is a string that includes 1280 then you will need to recalibrate your speedometer to match the 1978 unit. Nisonger can do this for you.
For sale? Unless it's an overdrive, they should pay you.
Someone here may have one in your area for next to nothing.
I still have two of them not picked up yet, but condition is unknown. But then I am a little further over than the person in your town :)

Two what? OD transmissions??
As mentioned, if it's from a rubber bumper car it will probably need a 1000 turn per mile speedometer or have a speedometer shop make a converter made for your speedometer.

I thought that the 1000 turn speedometer was OD and not year specific. I know that there is a size (diameter) difference but the speedometer is not the question here. The tranny is identical as long as it is the same as the one being replaced (OD or non OD).

Michael....
I also have a non O/D 4-speed transmission out of my 1974-1/2 MGB/GT that I will give you if you come pick it up.
I'm in St.Joseph, IL....about 20 miles west of the Illinois/Indiana border on I-74 (Exit 192)...A little less than 90 miles from you.
Send me a PM if interested.

Can you pull the speedo gear from a 1280 trans instead?

MY 71 GT with overdrive has a 1280 speedo, I'm putting the same early OD in my 79 and I'm getting a 1280 100mm speedo shipped from the UK for it.
You can switch 1280 the gears from the from the early transmission but you have to change the pinion and drive gear. The tail shaft of the transmission has to be removed to access the drive gear.
Overdrive and 4 speed synchro transmissions for chrome bumper cars use a 1280 tpm speedometer, Moss lists different different part numbers, but I haven't seen any differences between them and have interchanged them with no problems. A 76 should have a 1000tpm speedometer that will fit a 74, not sure which speedometer a 75 has. They can be found used, I have owned two.

The ones I have are two non O/D and one O/D that I am trying to get prettied up to go on Ebay if it doesn't sell locally.
I know that when I put the 76 O/D in my car I have to change a couple items to make it work with my speedo, a local guy has been coaching me on what items I need to order and change out for my "Makeover".
