Ok...the alternator thing did not work out that well so far. Tried to get the pulley off, and no go. Took it to the store and they would not take it off for me. Great. Came home, and looked at the B...and there was a puddle of green under the front end!

Dammit...I guess when I tried to get the pulley off, I hit the radiator and punctured it.

What else can go wrong?!

Oh, while I was telling my significant other about your woes, something dawned on me.

First off, you should be trying to get the pulley off on a bench and not in the car, and secondly, it doesn't sound like you're being very, shall we say, delicate - on the alternator. They're pretty fragile and any pounding or undue stress on the alternator could warp it, and that will in turn destroy it.

So it's best to just let the machine shop remove it. They have the proper presses and adapters to get the work completed.

Edward, I guess I really got lucky. I took my new Saturn alternator to an alternator repair shop. They rotated the front, put a V groove pully on and gave me an old core so I could get my core charge back and still keep my stock alternator. Their total charge was $20.00.

I was being very delicate..as far as I could be... Trying to remove the pulley in car was a last resort. I slipped, while trying to pull gently, but did not think I hit the radiator. Guess I was wrong. :)

I have a new radiator ordered. Should have been replaced anyway. I am redoing most of the engine area, why not the radiator?

Sorry to get in on this a bit late. To take the pulley off requires an impact wrench and knowledge of how to insert a woodruf key to keep the shaft from turning. As others have suggested, having an auto electric shop do this is recommended. The front housing is what has to be rotated 120 degrees clockwise.

Soak the pully nut with pb-blaster hold pully with chain-wrench and remove nut. The chain-wrench is well worth the investment.
I wouldn't try this in the car though...

Have you checked for a radiator shop in your area? Repair may be be cheaper than new.

Here locally I had an A/C condensor leak soldered up, pressure checked, and painted black for $15 last summer...

Even better, take (or get from them) the new one and have them push it on. Same price.
