Does anybody know what people use for ARP manifold to head studs for A & B Series engines? I have seen it done, and somebody in the UK says they can get them, but i could by loads from ARP for they money he wants.

Thanks... James

James.

The people at APT have figured out most of the puzzle pieces. They charge a fair price, the owners a Brit and a great guy, and their delivery is fast.

I can sell you all the ARP items you want, I get a pretty deep deal on ARP products, but I don't normally use thier manifold bolts, the stock ones do a good enough job there, no need for anything any better, I just get new ones from my normal British parts vendors, I do however use ARP rod bolts, head stud kits, main stud kits, and flywheel bolts. I just dabble in parts, but ARP is one of the parts I do.

On a Sidenote, David Anton is my buddy, and I think the world of him, but always check prices with David, like alot of us, his prices on the website can be outdated. Checking his webpage, I use it often ( lots of good info there) and buy a good bit of stuff from David, on the ARP page, he hasn't updated in 3 years, so please call first. Although, no matter who you buy it from, it's all pretty good stuff. I will say this though and learned this from David, the MGB 11/32" rod bolt ARP part#206-6002 needs to have the outward edge of the top of the bolt head chamfered to miss the camshaft, it's a total botch on the part of ARP, the rod bolt they sell us for the MGBs was originally made for, all of things, a AMC engine, that's the only gripe I have about ARP products is you have to put the chamfer on the 11/32" MGB rod bolts yourself, 11/32" rod bolt are any MGB engine using the straight rods, vs the early angled rod, which just uses a rod bolt, not a rod bolt and nut like the later MGB rods.

Thanks Hap, Luckily I can get all the ARP stuff over hear, most stuff is stocked by Arrow Precision. I had to wait 10 days for a set of main bolts though.

What i was wandering is that the manifold studs APT sell can't be made for BMC engines, they must be off something else, but they are UNF/UNF and i can't see anything like this in the ARP catalouge.

I'm with you now :), I thought I had a new set somewhere and I finally stumbled across them, APT part number AMS-1, I inherited this set from one of racing buddies who's now longer with us, the AMS-1 has been sitting in a box in my home garage for many years now, I'm sitting here looking at them right. If you look at the ARP catalog they sell universal fastners, I bought stuff from them over the years that didn't even show up in the catalog. While on their website in the catalog, they do show 5/16 stud , it doesn't tell the thread pitch, it needs to 1.5" with 5/16-24 thread on each end. APT's AMS -1 is packaged with (6) stainless steel studs, (6) stainless steel flat washer and (6) 12 point stainless steel nut. I bet if you call or email ARP they can supply thses an probably sell them in bulk. I once built this crazy 1500 Triumph race engine for a customer that had these billet steel main caps and I needed longer main studs, ARP supplied me with a longer main studs, that never showed up in thier catalog, so they do have stuff they don't advertise.

I'll say it again about the intake studs, this is probably why they sat in my home garage for 7-8 years now, you don't need anything special there, the white zinc plated ones all the vendor sell do a good job, and hold their plating for a good long time, alot of the vendors sell the studs with brass nuts in the kit as well. A intake stud doesn't need to be bullit proof, it doesn't take any torque to speak of, personally after years of building race engine I never saw the need to find something more expensive or fancy, and the only reason I can see anyone would want these is for cosmetics. If you've got to have these, try emailing or calling them, chances are you have to buy them in bulk packs, and all David is doing is repackaging bulk items with MGs in mind.
