I was calling around last week for a few parts for my A coupe and a guy I was talking to said A roadsters are worth at least half again as much as A coupes...as the coupes aren't as popular and are readily available.?? He said coupes don't bring near as much...was kind of shocked but what do I know. He also asked me if I was keeping or selling it. I told him maybe I'd cut the top off to make it worth something.

That's certainly true in the UK.

That seems to be true, not only of MGAs but Jag XKs as well. MOST people prefer a ragtop, though not everyone. But the difference is not that huge.

The relative rarity of the coupe makes it worth closer to the roadster than might otherwise be the case.

And cutting the top off isn't an option - there are too many differences in the bodies.. The coupes continue to move up in value.

Yes. on both counts. And the roadsters continue to move up in value as well.

Whacking the top wasn't serious....I've had both roadsters and coupes...like them both and probaly soon will have a roadster. Whatever the case...the coupe sure has nice lines. People that walk into my shop all love it.

Not sure where this guy gets his opinion but I have not seen any MGA roadster sell for 1/2 more than a coupe of the same quality. I think the difference in roadster v coupe difference in the XKE is this, as the XKE developed through the years more coupes were built than roadsters, where the MGA was around 10% of production. As is the case in my opinion the XKE, like the MGA looks best in coupe form. Oh.. did I mention I own an MGA coupe???

Yeah, David, the difference is smaller than tsi guy states. I really do like the lines of the coupe better in both the MGA and in the old XKs. BUT - I prefer driving topless to the point that I'd buy a roadster ahead of a coupe. Maybe if I lived in a colder climate, that would not be the case..

Well...until I get a A roadster...I can drop the top on the B roadsters or my wifes Mustang GT vert. During the summer months, starting right about now...we usually leave the tops down all the time. If the weather gets shaky we just take them all to the shop and drive vehicles with hard tops. We usually have six to eight vehicles on the road at all times so we have a selection.

Best I've done was top down from Memorial Day weeekend to after Labor Day. But that was back when I parked in a parking garage at work. It was a particularly dry year and I did dodge a number of showers that year. Too many rain showers in this part of the country to leave it down all the time and drive it everyday...

Besides all the MGs and other toys at my shop...we have a fairly rare Meyers Tow'd. Has the built in slide out tow bar that pops out of the front. Totally redone..my best freind owns it..she never drives it so is going to offer it up for sale. She offered to trade me straight across for my 911..I said I'd pass.

Geez - haven't seen one of those for a couple of years...

I have to move half a dozen cars to get it out of the corner...but it needs to see sunlight today. I'll take some pics of it and show the tow set-up, and maybe hook it to the truck to show people that haven't seen one what it looks like.

Sell it at www.manxclub.com people allways looking for manx originals and there is a big Bruce Myers blast up in the mid west coming up http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=270728 . You might want to keep it though , those Towed can go just about anywhere and are cheap to keep . Fire it up and go for a ride they are just as fun ! Not to Hijack this thread >> We got the Coupe to fire today and we are going to fill the tank with gas and going to run it then try to get it on the road to break in the engine this Sunday . Got good oil pressure because we had a loose nut on the oil cooler .
