I have a Weber downdraft with an electric choke put on at least two prior owners ago....

Here is my first question - which Weber is it? I can only locate a few numbers - a 27, a 26, and "018 00". And none of these fit anything in the searches I have done.

My second question is performance related. The car starts right up. No problem. But it idles in the 2200 range for extended periods. If I really hit the accelerator - in neutral (!) - the idle decays to around 1000 or so. It later hangs up in the 2200 range again.

How is this thing supposed to work? The high idle seems ok when its cold, but how and when is the choke supposed to moderate down toward normal idle?

Thanks for the help!

Dave

Have you tried adjusting the idle speed screw?

Check your throttle cable for binding, hang-ups, and the proper amount of slack at idle.

The return spring should be strong enough to return the carb to idle but not strong enough to make the throttle hard to derpressl

further, there should be means to adjust the electric choke. it might take you an hour or so to find the information (I certainly don't know!) but you might sttart by googling webers downdraft and looking from there.

the model is most likely a 32/36 but the same unit has been made in different configurations for 30 years.

Thanks to all - I am going to adjust the throttle cable first, then attack the choke adjustment if necessary. Appreciate the advice, and the link John!

It doesn't need to idle that high when cold. My manual weber will idle nicely at around 1300 rpm when cold with the choke out and then drop to 900 rpm once warm and I push the choke in (usually in just a few minutes). 2200 seems a lot of idle.

Sounds like the choke is not adjusting right.

If you can't get the electric choke to work you could convert to a manual one.

Don't know if this would work, but its worth checking out - its for a toyota, but you might find the equivalent for an MGB

My 32/36 Weber idled around 1000 rpm. I'm sure that's what you have.
