The Charlotte Autofair (aka: race track filled with fat, shirtless, smoking, smelly rednecks with mullets dribbling over muscle cars) is going on this weekend, and my dad and I headed out there today. It has a HUGE swap meet with all sorts of neat old stuff and car parts, but I didn't pick up much, just some license plates and plate frames. Also got an autographed copy of the new Tom Cotter book "The Hemi in the Barn". Just glancing through it looks like it is going to be great. Supposedly it isn't available in the stores yet. Anyway here are some pictures:
First up, everyone's favorite, a KIT CAR!!!

But soon after that, I saw the car dreams are made of!!! This is the real deal!!!!

This is going to be the new trend with tires: Custom Lettering. Nothing says pimped out tacky Fakerod like a website printed on your tires!

JDW ventured out of Hillbillyville to come visit Redneckland in his trusty Travco:

That isn't rain in these next two pictures. It is all my drool...

This one was interesting and in the auction. The taillights look familiar, but I just can't quite place where I've seen them before...

In case you haven't been following the thread over in the off topic section, Tony, you were wrong (gasp!) about what a 39 Studebaker looks like:

And now for the British stuff that was there. If you had a cool 30K in your wallet today, you could have had this Sunbeam Rapier.

This B was in the auction, and supposedly only had 12K miles on it (yet had already been repainted once?)

This B was an excellent example of proper windshield seal installation:

Some other LBCs (or LBC engined vehicles) there:

And finally, the DEAL of the DAY!!! Yours for only $800! Sill rust and missing parts come free!

Love the windshield seal. Wonder how he ever got the bolts to line up. Bet he took a file to the body.
Look at that "39 Studebaker" again, James...its a kit car stylized Studebaker on a Chevy S-10 with a Corvette powerplant...http://www.1939studebaker.com/A-product-overview.html
Here's a photo of a REAL '39 Studebaker pickup:

Oh man, I haven't been to the Autofair since sold my '48 Ford. I need to get down there again..... ;-)
Thanks for sharing James!
Questions...
Is that really John's Travco?
The red B w/s seal looks like it was tucked and rolled back under the frame. I have never seen on done like that.
I'll take the red car with the Kamm tail !!!!
Some people, like the guy that wants $800 for the B, have some cheeks don't they?

I would love to have that red coupe too. It was gorgeous. As for the guy with the $800 B, I suspect it cost so much because he went ahead and took the trouble of having the left rear tire removed before loading it on the trailer. Those can really get in the way sometimes!
James, save that picture of the white B engine bay - it looks like it has all the emissions stuff in the right places with the right hoses, and its a really good shot - somebody might need it someday.
James, all I want to know is how did you manage to post more than two pictures in one post. I'll take that Sunbeam Tiger.
James,
Nice assortment of vehicles. Thanks for sharing.

Now I know why I have a desmogged 69/
Nice photos, thanks. Some nice looking cars. The red coupe is a Cobra Daytona Coupe I believe. A replica I'm sure. Saw a couple of the real deals at Watkins Glen years ago. They are worth a fortune.
At the other end of the spectrum, I bought a much better parts car than that for 75 bucks years ago. Can't believe scrap prices have risen that much! LOL
Thanks for the pics James:
Fat: No
Shirtless: Yes
Smoking: Yes
Smelly: Yes
Redneck: Yes
Mullet: Dont know what that is, probably yes, but it doesnt matter, because I've already passed the test to visit the event.
I resemble that redneck remark...
Sure hate I missed that get together.
thanks for sharing the pics. Looks like you found something for everyone.
Thanks for the pics James. Nice to see a Sunbeam in there. My first exposure to LBC's was driving my boss's Sunbeam Alpine. I've had the illness ever since.
Tim
Tony are you sure??
We had a similar Stude at a Baker City Car Show (about 4 years back) that was a hand -retooled and mod'd real Stude that looked very very similar - except it was all black and no flames.

If you have to weed eat around your parts cars, you might be a redneck. Don't ask how I know. lol
Simon, that kit is all over the internet & there are lots of guys building it.....there was a guy a few years ago who had his original Studie PU in a hot rod mag after he'd done some serious body mods to it...its possible the kit is a knock-off of his....but the kit is mass produced.
a mullet is a short haircut but long hair left in the back.

Business in the front, party in the back! It's an ancient redneck favorite.
As for the Studebaker, you guys discussing whether or not it is real, did you ever bother to consult your sense of humor once, and realize how explicitly SARCASTIC I was being? Of course it isn't a real 39 Stude, anyone with half a brain can tell that!

To quote Charlie Brown: " Don't you know sarcasm when you hear it?!"
BTW: Seeing the Metropolitan reminded me of something. Back in the very early sixties a local nifty car guru use to rework the B series engines in them to what amounted to MGA specs. The things were real sleepers and could be made to handle well enough but they did have a tendency to look like they were going to fall over on their sides when driven quickly through corners. LOL
Jack
James, sarcasm doesn't very well in type. Trust me, I tried sarcasm over on the OT board many time and finally gave it up.
