Last night at church my boy participated in a Matchbox Open race where they have four lanes of track with a starting gate that opens up to what is a gravity induced roll - envision the top of a bell curve. The fastest car in each heat advances to the final three.
Matthew has a ton of Matchbox/Hotwheel cars and chose one of his Datsun 510s to race. Lydia (my daughter) chose an open top BRG Triumph TR4 racer.
They both competed in different age groups and Lydia lost in the first heat.
Matthew and his Datsun on the other hand, beat out about 50 other kids for the top honor as the fastest car of the evening.
He was so proud (so were we) and has since announced that the car will be retired and enshrined on his shelf alongside the blue ribbon.
Ha!
A good story for us guys who like old school cars

Fred, nice. I suspect that there is a race kart (or, I hope, karts) in Matt's and Lydia's imminent future.

Way to go Matt!
Shrewed, straight axles. You may have to change your strategy when it comes to the bumpy tracks however. Keep up the winning streak!
