Does anyone have an air filter / housing suggestion that looks / works better than that tin plated cheap looking thing that comes with the Weber 32/36 DGV? I'd like to replace what looks like a piece of you know what to me.
Thanks,

Moss and others list an oval-shaped chrome-plated mesh filter housing that uses a reusable foam element. LongFlo is the maker. I've got one on my Weber...I like it. FWIW
I have a round one on my 80 B's Weber. Hubby says it "breathes better" . I'll try to take a picture tomorrow :)
Bob there was a fellow at the breakfast in Jamestown NC last Saturday. He had made up a nice system using parts from the Jeggs cataloge. I wish I had taken a photo of the set up. It had a finned cover on top of the weber with a rear inlet. He had fashoned a U shaped tube from stock hot rod parts. With a K&N style filter on the front side of the radiator shroud. I think someone here did a similar set up an posted it before.

I used a KN set up.. see here.. http://rides.webshots.com/album/558155797IoOSOw
I used the access on the side of the weber to run the pvc...

I've got one of these I never used--yours for shipping. pm if you'd like.
Edited: also--the 32/36 carb is such a common one that there are air cleaner options beyond what you see in the brit car catalogs--just off the top of my head, I know you can get an adaptor plate from Summit racing that fits the weber and opens up whole worlds of air cleaners.
I think it was this one.. http://www.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=56-1010
The mention of foam filters reminded me of something. It is a good idea any time your engine sounds like it kicks over backward when shut off to immediately restart it and shut it off agalin. That backward kick can sometimes start a carburetor fire. The problem can be compounded by a foam filter which burns easily. One of the most experienced MG mechanics on this board, Tom Bedenbaugh, nearly lost a car due to these conditions a few years ago. He lucked out without too much damage other than a burned spot on the hood, but others have burned up completely. Restarting sucks any present flame back into the engine which harmlessly "eats" it.
Vicky-Brit has the Longflo oval air cleaner for the Weber 32/36 DGV carb on sale in thier Winter Special catalog for $29.95 (regularly 39.95), P/N 3-442. Extra filter elemnets are on special for 4.95 (regularly 5.95), P/N 10-891.
K&N makes several filter assemblies for the DGV. This one may be to tall for a B, but it should give you some idea.

That's good to know John. It gives me the reason to go out and get one of the K&N style that doesn't use foam rubber.
Autozone carries a K&N air filter setup for the Weber 32/36.....P/N:56-1030 @ $59.00.
Uh, oil soaked cotton gauze is also a fire hazard. As well as cellulose.

However, glass fibre nano fibre filters way less flammable.

this is the K&N assembly I used..
Sorry if I steered Bob wrong.. If you use this setup you will need to change the location of your PVC to hook into the carb body.. see here.. http://rides.webshots.com/album/558155797IoOSOw
I used the access on the side of the Weber to run the pvc... It has to be drilled out and a nipple pressed or threaded in for the PVC hose hook up
