Well it went bad---starting churping! Checked VB--$165+and Moss, over $200.

Took it apart, bearings fried, decided i would try local. Went to Napa and before i could tell them what i needed it for, they told me! Good first impression, checked availability and price and had my hand on my wallet. $87.50 w/o pully, plus refundable $7.00 core charge! Tot. including shipping came to about $110 with life-time warranty. Be here in about 3 days.

Napa brand, and had to order, made in US, think i lucked out, use to use Napa a lot!

So what do youse think?

Cheers

Which one did you get, the one for a Fiesta, or one for a Saturn, or a Lucas replacement?

You may want to check out www.kragen.com sometimes they have free shipping on orders over $50.

Kragens (and Autozone) can be pretty uneven online, even more than in the stores.

Autozone online provided an oil pump pickup (not MGB) that wasn't even threaded at the end. took it to a store, couldn't help. Ended up buying 3/8 NPT die to thread it because it was easier than sending it back and waiting for my money back.

Kragens accepted order online for MGB calipers and after a week, cancelled one but it took 2 more weeks to get a refund.

I'm not pleased with either of them.

have been pretty satisfied with Rockauto...they shipped a 19 cent saab oil plug gasket all by itself from one location...cost at least $3 for ups and box. The carry Delco and Wix (and Crossland and others) oil filters for the B for about $4. NGKs for $1.70. The interface to the catalog is a bit unusual until you catch on.

I bought a Lucas reman from Advance Auto 5 years ago and it's still going strong. Paid about $80 I believe and that includes the lifetime warranty.

Not a Lucas, Napa brand and as long as the amperage is the same and brackets line-up am happy!

Dont care for Kragens.

... as have I. And I will continue to buy from them.

One word of caution - and this would be true of any online source - is to take into account the return shipping charges on those parts with core charges. They can easily offset any pricing advantage that online sources have over local retailers.

Another consideration is if parts are damaged in shipment. If you are buying from a local retailer that is entirely their problem. You can always refuse to accept the stuff. If you are buying online it is (at least initlally) your problem. Sure the online source or shipper has to make good on the damage (it is normally their responsibility) but you still have to deal with the hassle of getting everything returned. Be prepared to accept that risk.
