I am converting my 1963 MGB from a generator to an alternator with an internal regulator. The car is - ground. The install is completed,i.e., brackets, etc.; how do I hook up up electrically? There are two wires coming off the alternator...where do they go? Do I eliminate the voltage regulator? Any help would be appreciated.

The first thing we will need to know about your situation is what make of alternator you are using?? They all work similarly, but their wiring layouts can vary, and knowing which you have chosen to use will help us help you. If you can add a couple of photos of the backside of your alternator showing us the connectors, that would be helpful as well.

Stuart first posted about this over on the OT forum, then it was suggested he move it over here.

His original post says a Delco:

"I am converting my 1963 MGB from a generator to a Delco alternator with an internal regulator(all + ground). The bracket and install are no problem. The problem is the wiring. There are two (2) wires coming out of the alernator...where do they go? What do I do with the existing voltage regulator and what do I do with the wires to it? Correction..........all negative (-) ground."

NO need for photos. The alternator is an AC/Delco 7127 with an internal regulator. Two wires (red & white) from under the unit and a lug on the back (opposite the pulley) for a connection. To what do I connect the red and white wires to? And what do I connect to the lug? What about the existing voltage regulator? and can I still use the ignition on the tach? How is it wired? The alternator is installed with a bracket, etc. Thanks in advance.
