As many here will know, I am a BIG fan of Gerry's steering column bushing kits. Without a doubt, one of the best upgrades you can do to your B, and a VERY fair price.
However, I had always ignored his "Emergency Hood Release" kit until I started having problems with the normal hood release on the GT and somebody suggested Gerry's kit. So I ordered two - one for each car.
I installed the first one on the GT on Wednesday evening (it took all of three minutes - and two of them were spent finding the drill). I am in TOTAL amazement. Who woulda thought that a carefully crafted length of wire, and a grommet, would make such a simple and efficient item. I am sold - every MG I own from now on will have one - and forget making your own, by the time you had assembled all the parts, made a few mistakes and finally got it right, it would be cheaper to buy one from Gerry!
Well done Mr. Masterman - another stroke of genius!

Good to hear! That's one of those things I've always thought I should get for my B, but never got around to doing it!
Eric,
I totally agree and since I installed Gerry's release cable on my 66B I seldom if ever use the inside release anymore. It is such a simple idea but such a great addition to any B that I can't imagine anyone being without one.

I concur with the above comments.......
I was priviledged to get one of the first ones, the beta version, I reckon. I use it regularly, easier to use than the release under the dash. If you are standing outside the car and want to release the bonnet it can't be beat.
I made up one for the hood on the S10. The next day the cable on the regular release broke.
I received mine from Gerry a month or so ago. I got around to putting it in last week, and I must say it is a great design. No longer will I pray while pulling on the bonnet release, hoping the cable does not snap.
I have started using the GEM cable as the primary release for the bonnet.
Got mine when my original snapped. Easy to install. Great improvement.

The one modification I made to the release was to put a piece of vinyl tubing over the cable so there is no posibbility of it shorting out if that cable should come in contct with the connections on the horn.

Gerry has kept his "ear to the ground" over the years, and put together quite a number of well made and useful items like that that no one else or only a few have offered. I carry a link to his site on my website just so that those souls who happen into my site can become aware of what he and others have to offer. Gerry's stuff meets the needs of owners for items that almost all of the bigger retailers have not seen fit to make and/or sell, and I am glad for him that he has had the entrepreneurial spirit to carve out a niche for himself in our hobby. Go Gerry!
So Gerry - when will we see the new "E-Clip Installation Tool"? :D
Gerry, I'm a gonna need a pair of them there hood release cables plus a couple of them other items you make up for my B's. Please PM me when you get a chance. Thanks!

Can one go without the standard cable release if using one of Gerry's?

Same comments here --they are the best. Matter of fact if it's made by GEM then in belongs on your MGB :)
Let me tell you what I did before I took off for work yesterday....
First off, I'm doing the engine bay so everything is out including the bonnet release cable. I'm checking clearance on the valve cap to the bonnet, I've got one of those Menlco valve covers which is rather high....so what do I do close it (after making sure no damage will be done).
Then I thought CRAP now you did It... I bought two of the GM 101 cables with the 2nd hanging on the wall. Was able to slide it in after putting a bend in the cable to hook on to the release.
No screw driver marks on my Grill ..
Thanks again Gerry!
HIs other must have product are those luclar brshes.....Those things work!!!!!
John I think that's coming right after he finishes up the rear deck plugs project. I want one of those tools too!
