I'm ready to put my B on the road. Car has Rostyle wheels with decades old 185/70-14s. A club member has four Vredestein Sprint Plus S80 165R14 steel tubeless tires with tubes for $100. I have access to a tire changer and wheel balancer and bead braker so I could dismount the tires with a spoon and install the 165s on the Rostyles. Hence, the 165s for cheap and save quite a bit. I can also save the wire wheels and install them at a later date after changing the hubs. Wife loves wire wheels. :) Good idea? Bad idea?

Vredestein tires are not cheap. If he is only asking $100 I would assume they are old (dry rotted) so I would have to pass on that.

You have a Merchant's tire stores in your area....(they're called Nat'l Tire & Battery around here).......They offer good tires of several major brands and prices.....And they will be "fresh" tires......The warranty is usually a very good one.......

Don't scrimp on tires........

Steve

You need to read the following links as I suspect your replacement tires are crap to start with

Did you check the age of the Vredestein tires? All tires have a date code on the side and you should be able to derive the date of manufacture. You're being wise to replace your "decades old" tires, so don't replace them with other old tires. I wouldn't touch a tire more than 5 years old.

Stve,

Whichever way you choose to go, do note that the Rostyle wheels are "lug-centric," meaning that the large center hole is not a true center, and these wheels must be balanced using an adapter to mount to the four lug bolt holes... ;)
