If 226,000 Mg Midgets were produced how many still exist. I was wondering if this information is accessible anywhere and how Midgets compare with the same vintage American cars. Maybe the winters are too long in Maine?

Hello Dave,
You are not the only one who wondered or has too much time on his hands this winter. I just completed a term paper for one of my classes. (I do not think that I have outed previously myself as a full time doctoral student in my "part time." ) ;)
I decide to have some fun with a paper and did a research study on LBCs, the LBC parts suppliers, the owners, and the market. Much of the anecdotal background, I gathered from here, other blog sites, and from parts suppliers web sites.
I did not come up with an answer to this question. The only way would be to survey all the DMVs for open records and even then, you will not ge the whole story.
However, Sky has a great registry on this site. (http://www.mgexperience.net/registry/ )and also lists membership by country.
This is a good place to start. Even though not everyone who owns a Midget is registered here, this is a good place to start.
In case you are interested, some of observations and my findings:
- The size of the market is shrinking, as no new cars are production. Although most owners are older men, the owner community also includes many younger owners and women
- Moss supplies over 50% of their product to VB and others.
- The major vendors, need to increase the involvement of local affiliates. We have several affiliates who are members of this forum. They can help grow our world.
- Moss, VB and the major other vendors need to get out of manufacturing and concentrate of support, and innovating to redesign and create existing parts by taking advantage of new technological developments and best practices. Sorry, but manufacturing is better outsourced to qualified/certified (high quality) parts manufacturers.
- The vendors can also take a lesson form Amazon on fulfillment, or even partner with Amazon using prepositioning. This makes sure we can get what we need in the shortest possible time.
Please let me know if you come up with any numbers…
Y.
That's over 50 percent if there 130,000 still around ! I was think 20 percent .
