OK, don't laugh. As we all thought, the bmw seats are too wide. The problem is not the seat itself, but the base with all of the electronic crap underneath the seat. This is making the metal base of the seat too wide to fit into the mg. I am determined to make this work, but I am going to need all of the help and input from you guys. Got an ideas to start with?

You should consider the E30 seats. They are all manual recaros.
Carolyn, could you post up a couple of pictures in good detail of the underside of those seats and perhaps we could find a solution to your problem. The seats themselves do fit in the cockpit, correct?
You'll probably need some "Universal seat adjusters/slides" and some fabrication. Try Summit Racing.
Someone once told me bmw recaro seats from the early 80's
fit in with no modifications. I never verified that.
I was looking the other night at some shots of the new BMW built Mini, and noticed the seats. That made me wonder if, with proper modification they might fit our cars?? Maybe not, but it might bear some investigation.
The only problem with seats from an e30 is they are HEAVY. Try 40lbs each heavy. They are pretty comfortable though.
Bob after a 3500 mile trip in our 05 MINI I can attest to that fact that for a tall guy that re-built MGB seats are just as comfortable on the long drives.
I haven't tried it yet but perhaps those MINI wheels would fit or maybe those nice rear disk brakes.
