I had to go way back for this set of posts. JDW was cracked up for days after this.

Ever had one of those days that everything you did turned to crap? Today was mine...Should have stayed in bed.

The day before, I cut the end of my left index finger while scoring drywall. That's the set up. I started yesterday by attempting a trial fit of my modified dashboard on the B. Remembered that the choke cable needs to be fastened first, went inside, got it and saw that the finish "washer" behind the handle looked bad, so I sanded it and clearcoated it. While it was drying I took the two end caps off the stalk switches on the steering column. Sanded the rust off, set them on two empty coke cans to keep them upright and sprayed them with rust-oleum hardhat black. Took the cable out to the car, fit it in and noticed that the back locknut was gone. Damn thing slipped off the cable somewhere between the house, backyard and front driveway. Hunted everywhere, no luck. After a long session of some choice words I abandoned the dash for the day and moved on to install a new battery disconnect switch behind passenger's seat. That went ok. In the meantime I heard two coke cans in the back hit the ground rolling. Wind caught 'em (empty). Found the end caps with sand stuck all over the new paint. Covered the car back up and moved on the work on the drywall.(you see my wife is an RN and her new schedule has her working weekends now. The deal was that she'd go back to work while I suspended my free-lance work so I could get the house remodeling completed. We have noise laws here so can't hammer, etc. before 9AM. So I work on the car from 6:30AM to 9AM and then switch over to the house part.) But yesterday the car "work" was running up to 1PM. I hit my cut finger while nailing some new hurricane straps...another session of words. Decided to mow the yard...managed to demolish a $20 inground sprinkler head...words...and shred my wife's prize bigfoot rubber doormat that she has had for years...don't ask....words.I ceased all further attempts to do anything. Went inside, cleaned up and at 4PM headed of to shoot a video of my daughter's ballet required-routine for her audition with the Geoffrey Ballet in NYC. Really held my breath on that one and made it thru ok. Wife came home and broke out laughing at my tale of the day. We had take-out for dinner. My BBQ pork sandwich was obviously tainted, spent all night with severe "trots". That was the literal capper of a crappy day...

And I thought I was the only one that stuff like that happens to.
Kind of like when you put something down and....
I recently had to rebuild (o rings) my brake proportioner (or pressure failure switch body assembly!). I had the nylon switch housing that screws into it off and went inside to show the girlfriend what was wrong.
Next day, where the $#@% is that darn thing. I tore the house and shop apart for 4 days looking for that thing. Maybe one of the dogs got it. Searched the yard for days.
Went throught the trash more then once. Washing Machine, dryer..no luck.
Meanwhile I decided to pick up a parts car with an overdrive, so I was able to scab one off of that.
About two weeks later I moved my swing arm lamp on my desk. Located just behind it, there it was. I was positioned just so perfectly directly behind it, I just couldn't see it. I had pulled the desk from against the wall and searched with no luck.
We still joke about how I had to buy another MG just to get that part!
Yup, I'm beginning to think my garage is haunted. I put something down and can't find it later. I really hate that. Probably age creeping in.
