I have a question. I have seen several ads for MGB's that have had the Black Rubber bumper removed and replaced with a Chrome one. I think they are using a Conversion Kit" for this. Does this negate the value of the car? What's the general feeling on this.
Thanks! From a new member!

I believe the conversions are being done as the majority of MGB fans prefer the CB look. That's not to say the RB cars are ugly but we all have our personal tastes. I myself prefer the look of CB and converted a RB car into CB for my V8 project. I didn't use a conversion kit but made up brackets using original CB parts.

I think if the conversion is done properly and the owner doesn't try to pass it off as an original CB car, it may bring a bit more than if left in it's RB state.

Just my thoughts.

Do it b/c you like the look. The problem with doing it for resale is the conversion will cost more than what someone could typically just buy a CB for. For the average car, probably doesn't subtract from the value. It might help, but the overall condition matters more

If you have an unusual RB it would hurt. Typical examples would be a RB GT or a Limited Edition (LE).

over here, the cars with the conversion carried out do command a higher price than the rubber bumper versions, but only slightly.

Yo guys,

The problem is this -- the rubber bumper cars got a bad rap because they had to sit higher than the original riding height dictated. The cars looked not quite right, too much daylight in the wheel wells. They still have a good look to them - however, in my opinion - the rubber bumper cars look best when...1) they're lowered back down, and 2). the bumpers are taken care of, (wet sanded back to black) then treated with a high quality gel-clear bumper black solution and 3). the carbs are converted back to dual SU's, less the emissions. I agree with Alonzo, condition of the car is primary - versus just saying they have...chrome bumpers.

Both cars look good in their own right...Simon.

Thanks, Dan
