I got a pre-cut jute insulating pad set for the '72 bonnet. Has anyone tried using a silicon-base sealant to bond the pad to the metal? I'm wondering if the jute will just pull apart over a period of time.

Do a search. There was a thread recently that recommended a 3M adhesive that works
I intalled some on mine 3 years ago and used the 3M . It is still very good. The only thing with 3M you have only one chance so be shure to place the pad right the first time

I got a pad set from vb that has jute on one side and vinyl on the other....I used a spray from oreillys that was on a shelf with all the different use glues etc....i picked one that said it does what it says on the can....imo....2 people is best (1 on eitherside of the car)
Spray the 3M adhesive onto the jute backing. Then let it set up for a while, this penetrates the backing material and gives a base for the second coat.
Spray a second coating onto the material and on the car. Let this second coat tack up. Then install the pad.
It'll stay up for a long time.

Got it! Thanks guys. The silicon sealant didn't sound like a good product for this application. It was suggested to me. I can get the 3M product and take the hood off.
