Hi All,

Just went out to the parts store to pick up a bleeder wrench for next week's project and didn't realize that bleeder wrenches came in different sizes, standard & metric. (duh)

Anyway I have some spare beeder nipples but none of my wrenches are that small.

Can you tell me what size to shoot for? 1969 MGB.

Thanks,
Bill

My 1971 car has two different sizes on the rear slaves. The front calipers are bigger but different again.
You do not need a special "bleeder wrench". Any box end that fits will do.

3/8", 5/16" and 1/4" are the three sized on a B if my memory serves me. Largest is the clutch slave, next is the front calipers and the smallest is the rear. Be real carefull, though, I have found some rear bleeders that require a 6MM even though they had inch system threads

Now that you mention it I believe one of the rear slaves on the 1971 has a 6 MM and the other is a 1/4 inch. The bleeders are definitely two different sizes and only one speed bleeder fit.

Be careful with the initial loosening. I use 6 point 1/4" drive sockets to do that. Those brass bleeders are very easy to ruin.

Then use small box end wrenches to match the sockets to re install. I think sears had s a set for less than $20.

bleeder fittings should have anti-seize put on threads .
rear brake shoe adjusters also.

I just bleed my 73 BGT's clutch slave and it was 7/16.

Flare wrenches (open w/5 flats) are needed on those hard to loosen ones so as not to damage flats. If already rounded, use vice grips and then replace with new.

Gerry,
I have not been able to locate the clutch bleed screw on my GT. Can you give me a pointer where to access it? (74 MGB GT)

Thanks so much.

The clutch slave cylinder bleed is on the clutch slave. Look at your starter and right next to it you will see a black hose coming from a tab welded on the frame member. Follow that hose and it will lead you to the clutch slave. It bolts to the bell housing and is only accessable from under the car
