It's a long story which I'll try to condense for an upcoming article in the NAMGBR 'Driver' but I thought I'd share the gist of it here. Basically, I've wanted a Rubber Bumper GT with a sliding roof since I saw one in Europe many years ago. Last year I bought the car from our fellow Mg Exp'r Dan DiMartino. This Summer I found and purchased an NOS Britax/Weathershield sliding top and this weekend I finally had it professionally installed...
It is indeed a very Merry Xmas.

Very nice Scott! I look forward to reading about it in "MG Driver".
I reckon there aren't too many NOS tops laying around.
Very nice! Dan will also be proud to see his car in good hands.

Very nice indeed. It's similar to the Webasto in my GT.
You'll enjoy the fresh air now,
Thanks, I'm really happy with it. The fit and finish of this top is A+. There were a lot of bobs and weaves to get to this point so I'm thrilled to have it all done.
Scott,
Very nice. You have great taste and a wonderful GT there. I enjoyed your story of buying/getting it home and you seem to really enjoy the car. Kudos!
I installed the same sunroof in my rubber bumper GT 2 years ago. Since sold the car. I would love to know how much the professional installation cost you?
Pete
Thanks. I was lucky enough to find an original Britax installer who still had the metal templates (where and what to cut). In fact he was a factory-appointed trainer and travelled to different countries showing people how to put these in way back when. He said he was doing at least one a day back in the 70s/80s on various cars. It cost $350 and I'd have likely paid double for that piece of mind knowing it was being done by a true pro. I had nightmares about some hack (other than me) 'learning' on the job while putting it in. It's fairly complicated with the rivets and layering of the different stainless pieces that make up the frame.
ps The guy I bought the top from has 2 or 3 left. They are not cheap at $875 each but I feel after everything it was well worth the cost and effort: http://www.slidingragtops.com/49.html?sm=82165
Scott,
I really like that! The style just seems to fit the GT. I've had a sun roof of some sort in every car I've owned since a Peugot 403 in 1974. Have always wanted a GT and your new roof is the answer!

You know, I've never been a big fan of the sliding tops, but that looks perfect. It really does go with the car, doesn't it?
I think so too, thanks. It goes well with the rubber bumpers. This wasn't an easy decision, I went back and forth over the last year. Finding an NOS period-correct top pushed me over the edge...
Well I'd say you landed softly Scott. The top looks like it absolutely belongs on your car.
But know you dont need the B :spinning:

But now you dont need the B :spinning:

You'd be surprised how different the Roadster is from the GT, it's like night and day. Even with the new top. For now I have room in my life for both...
Realy Realy nice car. I have the exact same roof (even down to the chrome hinges for the wind deflector) on my 75 GTJubilee. Hope you took photos of it being cut and installed. I have to remove mine for replacement of the roof lining as I am redoing the interior. I am very nervous about disturbing the original instalation but dont see any other way of replacing the lining properly. Will look for your up comming article. Again Super nice car!!
No pics, sorry. I did photograph all the bits and pieces before it went in. Glad to hear another GT of the same vintage has this top, it backs up the period-correct notion I have.
And i thought it was a MG sin to cut speaker holes in the rear bulkhead panel. This goes way past that . When i was hunting a GT many years ago i turned down alot of cars because of the hole in the roof. I could not have done it. Not to be negative...As long as it floats your boat go for it! I just wish it would have been to a more common earlier GT. Period correct or not thats a big hole to fix. I guess if you enjoy the car more with the top cut then thats all that matters. Bob
IThat's exactly what I wanted to do with my old '74 BGT before I sold it. I couldn't find a proper top. It great very hot inside a GT in southern California's cliimate for months on end, and there is very little airflow unlike in a roadster. That top will help give you some air. And it looks really good. Nice job. I sure wouldn't worry about the "hole" in the roof. I think it adds value. Windows are holes in the door, aren't they?
Scott, where did you get it installed? I'd be interested in filing the name away just in case I end up with a GT again and find a similar roof. I've always wondered who could install one of those tops. I'm in Pasadena.
