Since when is a prison supposed to be fun and luxurious?

Seems like they could load up 30% of them and send them home to Mexico and drop them is Mexico City with 10 pesos. We have less prisoners problem solved. It would take them a couple of weeks to get back. They could cross the border in California have a physical move into East LA and start all over again.

Peter no one is trapped in Mexico, their motto is keep the sun to your right in the morning and left in the afternoon and keep walking.

The movie "Escape From New York" comes to mind. We could ship them to SF and mix them in w/ the granola that's there now. Put up a fence to keep them in and...wait, we tried that at the border and it didn't work. Never mind.

Wouldn't it be nice if judges actually lived in the 'real' world!

I retired in 2006 from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. I worked in a lot of the specialty depts from ER, ICU and MED/Surg units. I spent the last 20 years as a psychiatric nurse. I've been down and dirty in the mud, blood and pruno. I've been hit, bit and 'gassed' with substances you don't want to know about. I've responded to situations where pepper spray, tear gas and rounds fired over my head from the towers. I can honestly say these folks are not "coddled" or living a "plush" existence. They do receive excellent care and treatment once they are received into the system. The problem is that they have to commit a crime before receiving that care. A sad commentary on our society. It is the public who have given their elected officials the power to mandate what happens in our prison system. I have watched the system change from the murderers and rapists who belong isolated from society to the young gangsters who have no concern for others, but could easily have been redirected if services were provided on the street and in school systems. It is the public who want everyone the least antisocial incarcerated as prison bond after prison bond have passed. Now we are at a point where there is simply no more room. Feds tried to take over care and treatment--their solution? Spend state money to build more facilities. Wanted to bring in independent servitor--found out no one knows how to do it better than the folks already running the program. We used to have self supporting prisons and psychiatric hospitals in California until Reagan and his cronies decided they were taking money out of the pockets of special interest groups. Could go on and on. But this is related to why I retired.

Jim, for the most part, you have work to get into jail. They dont want them but eventually have to take them into the system. I don't have an answer, but turning these assholes loose on society aint one of them. Maybe they could convert Gitmo to a prison for California Cons.
