I'm sure some of you watched the Yankees/Indians game last Friday and saw the invading horde of flying insects that messed with the players. What was up with that? And why do they call them Canadian soldiers? It looked horrible. Are those suckers a common occurence?

Never been a Yankees fan, but I do feel a little bad for Joe Torre. What a class act. But he had a good ride, 12 years with the Boss has to be some kind of record.

I'm Canadian, but I've never heard of these insects (at least, not by that name). Was the game in New York, or Cleveland?

The game was in Cleveland. I guess they're mayflies, at least according to this:

Didn't watch the game (never do), but I've never heard of an insect called a Canadian Soldier, either.

Ah, Mayflies, June Bugs, Shadfies, I've heard of! But surely those are the even rarer Octoberflies!

Maybe it's like French Fries, which don't come from France. Or German Chocolate Cake, which comes from... Pennsylvania? Maybe somebody just figured Cleveland Cooties was too mundane, and they couldn't spell Quebecois. ;)

I thought they were Gnats. Don't tell the bleeding hearts up here that we had soldiers in the States too. :(

Baseball still going on? It's Hockey Season... :)

Hi, Ryan:

Yeah, Torre is a class act all right - but he'll land with his feet on the ground, somewhere. Can you imagine working for an a _ _ hole who says, "Win this game or you're fired?!" If I were Joe Torre, I'd hit the trail without a backward glance.

The Yankees are an old bunch whose time has passed. Time to sit back and watch the young bucks have a go at it.

(I just like to see good baseball!)
