I have a 1 microfarad capacitor attached to the screw of my fuel cutoff switch. This is behind the dash, high up, on the left (driver's side) of the cockpit There is a black wire with spade terminal coming from the top of the capacitor.

Does anybody know where the black wire is supposed to attach? I don't see any mating spade terminals that are blank except for ones on the voltage regulator. I can't find this capacitor on the wiring diagram either.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Dave

Black wires are always grounds. Try stretching it in every direction to see what it MIGHT have been connected to.

Capacitors just soak up current and stand there waiting for someone to pee on them. Why someone would have one there is puzzling.

maybe noise filter for radio?

Yep, don't believe it's origional. Likely someone added it to suppress noise on their radio. Kinda pointless, if you ask me. When you have something as wonderfull to listen to as tappets and a MG exhaust note, who needs a radio;o)

Thanks for the feedback. I'm also betting it's a noise filter. I found one on the fuel pump that I removed as well.

Thanks,
Dave

The fuel pump one is supposed to be there.............

Dwain,

Thanks. I've actually removed the fuel pump capacitor and the fuel pump since I had to install a high pressure pump for my V6 conversion's fuel injection system.

Thanks,
Dave

I think it may connect to the voltage regulator. Mine is disconnected also.

My '78 doesn't have a capacitor there and neither did an '80 I once stripped for parts.
