Hi all,
For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to figure out how to fit my two boys (age 4 and 2) safely in the GT.
I have tried putting in the safety seats we use in our daily drivers, but these are way to big for the GT, even if I remove the back seat. Currently I have 2 point seat belts in the rear of the GT, but I find it too dangerous to take the kids on longer rides this way, as their necks and heads are not protected and they can slip sideways easily.
As they really like the GT and keep asking me if I will take them for a drive, I would really appreciate your experiences and solutions.
Thanks in advance for your help.
p.s. the winter rains are gradually ending and the temperature is improving by the day. I am really itching..........

At least in Maryland with a 2 & a 4 year old I would be required to have them in child safety seats. These can be safely mounted via the seatbelts & are supposedly much safer.
At least in Maryland, I would be required by law to put small children in 'child safety seats' which is a smaller padded strap in seat that then is fastened to the car seat via the seat belts. They're supposedly much safer but never having had an accident while driving with a small child in one I wouldn't know for sure
Since the MG doesn't have airbags, I would say move the passenger seat all the way forward and install one child seat there, then the other one directly behind it. Hopefully there is enough room with the passenger seat moved forward?
The GT was not designed with modern safety consideration in mind. If you hunt through the archives on the UK BBS you'll find a lot of talk about installing rear belts and child seats. The consensus is that it cannot be done in a manner consistent with modern safety regulations.
If you really want to take your kids out in a classic buy a real four seater. I got to ride in a Volvo PV 544 Sport a couple of days ago, that is a car that could easily be modified to accept child seats in the back, and dare I say it? - It's as much fun as a GT! :)
