sorry to ask again for help, but now that we have the year of the model, we have spare chrome bumpers from a 1974 MGB, is there any possibilty that they may fit onto the 1979 mgb?

Not without some serious mods.

here's what you need to do.... you can get all the parts elsewhere for much less!

I guess it depends on the cost of the time. But from what I understand - its quite a lot of work.

Tim,
I was thinking the same, Moss kit, but don't you have/sell the brackets for the conversion??

I here Tim above owns Morspeedperformance. Here is the link that has the bumper brackets for the rear-http://www.morspeedperformance.com/cb.cfm Alot cheaper than Moss! You have to cut the front bumper mounts back 3 inches to fit the grill. In your case, You would also need to get the rear corners that go under the taillights from Moss or VB. There will also be a gap where the turn signal indicators go. The easiest thing to do is to fit the Rubber bumper turn signals in that space.

For the first time in several years I saw a B on the freeway (I-80) today (halfway between Sac and SF). He had an RB car but CB ride height.

I was in the SAAB not the B.

That is a nice looking combo.

I do own morSpeed, and I have the brackets, but I didn't want to pop an ad on the forum.

Mos has the pages to trace for the front filler pieces in the link I posted.

The brackets are simple, of you have the time to play with taking the bumper up and down a few dozen times, then figuring out how far to bend them, and it's 1/4" plate, so nice to bend...>LOL.

but, luckily I have the drawings, and since he's a kid learning, I'm gonna scan them and send him a copy. It's that whole teach a man to fish kind of deal.

Good on ya, Tim.
Hopefully, what he will learn is that its a bit bigger project than he first thought, and he'll buy a set of your brackets!
.
Two big benefits to chrome bumper conversions:
1) classic MGB appearance
2) weight reduction !

Mike,
It may not mean anything but the rear 74 bumper is a bit different from other years. A 74 has a chrome bolt dead center while other years don't. It's there to hold a steel bar to the inside, something other years don't have. Also the bumperetts are further apart. This year will put them on the outside of the gas cap, other years they are inboard of the gas cap. Just make sure you can use the bumper before you start.
