A fun day and an interesting result in judging at British on the Green in NC yesterday... (photos follow)
When the hardware was handed out, members of this forum cleaned house! Dave Rushing's red 69 B was voted "Best MGB" with Norm Davies' 74 B the runner-up. Then, of all the Brit cars on display, Norm's B was named "Best in Show"!
Both owners were surprised and very pleased... the Davies had a bit of a time trying to fit their large, beautifully engraved award plates and bases into their B for the ride home.
I'd seen many photos of both cars on this site, but not seen them in person.... wow! Congratulations to both!
Both chrome bumper B's had excellent bodywork and a fine finish, gleaming chrome and stainless, nearly new, clean interiors, immaculate engine bays, and both gave the impression that these were well-kept, well-maintained, enjoyed and driven cars.
For those who have long held that the "ultimate B' would be a 63-67 steel dash car with wire wheels in BRG or another original color, consider that:
Neither Dave's nor Norm's car:
is a steel dash car
is an original MG color
has original MG wheels
has an interior color correct for its year
has an OE interior
And Norm's car (built after Dave's) is further modified/improved from that
Sounds to me like a resounding vote for the "build it the way you want it to B" group! Well Done!

Regardless of ones position on originality, etc. these 2 cars are exceptional examples of what can be achieved with +/- 40 year old cars and really set a fine example for those not currently involved in this hobby. These cars get a high level of attention wherever they go and can be highly appreciated by persons not actively involved with cars. I am proud that these guys are part of our local club and their cars help to keep interest in lbc's alive and well. Plus they are just really great folks to have around.
Great Job!!! and well deserved.
Anyone interested in seeing some of the other fine examples on display can view images at the link below.

Thank you for the kind words gentlemen. I am still quite surprised at the results and with all of the beautiful cars attending, I was glad to take home any hardware! Dave's car is outstanding and was a big inspiration and motivator to me when I was restoring mine.
Thanks for the kind words, guys. It was truly a beautiful day in Mint Hill, NC yesterday and I was just glad to be in attendance and surrounded by so many beautiful British cars and such great people. Unexpectedly taking home a trophy was just icing on the cake! Mike, it was certainly great to get to meet you after seeing and hearing you so much on T.V. and seeing your posts here on the BBS. Scott, John and Norm, thanks again for your compliments.
Dave Rushing
Dave and Norm, you guys both did great jobs on your restorations. With Dave having two very little kids, I think it was great that he was even able to make it out in the first place!
I remember when Norm first joined the BBS and thought he would have his car totally restored over the summer. It took him a bit longer, but you just cannot appreciate the quality of the restoration until you get up close and see all the little details.
congrats Dave and Norm, your awards are well deserved.
Also lets not forget to give props to Frank Mooring, his supercharged LE brought home an award for the second straight weekend.
Paul,
Thanks also for the kind words. Yours as well as Dave's and Norm's are inspirations for me to yank the engine and finally redo the engine bay. I have been putting it off, honestly because the car is so much fun to drive, but this winter it may finally happen. I too really enjoyed the show and would like to thank you and James for reminding us about it so we could make the drive over. Also thanks to the Metrolina MG car club for putting on such a nice show.
Frank
Frank, anytime you get tired of your car and would rather drive a totally worn out old stock B, I'd be more than happy to come over and trade for a weekend just so so you could have that chance. :D
Now James...you know that is a tempting offer.........but at least for now I think I'm gonna pass. I am afraid when I got her back you would't be able to see my new metallic flake paint job through all the bumper stickers. Will definitely keep you in mind though,
Frank
