I know at least a few of y'all have done that ... I temporarily made my dysfunctional brake fail lite into a stoplite monitor. Nice but sometimes I'm so focused on gauges, sounds, smells, etc at startups I forget the e'brake and I hate doing that. What kind of switch is rig-able to the e'brake; a microswitch from Radio Shack or something like that? And where does it go - thanks!

Dare I say, I told you so?

Didn't make a whole lot of sense to me when you brought it up the first time, still doesn't make a lot of sense. How about keeping the break failure warning light as a brake failure warning light and just rigging up some little LED to tell you that you neglected to release the e-brake.
Another light's fine with me, yo, I'd like to keep the monitor; maybe someone will enlighten me re what kind of e'brake switch and where to mount it. Is that leaky pressure switch I ditched even available??? I haven't seen one.
If you get a later handbrake assembly there is a switch already mounted in it for a handbrake warning light.
I am just asking out of curiosity, how is this a problem? When you start to move you should be able to tell the E-brake is engaged.
Marco
It seems to me the 76 must have that later switch they are tlaking about. Although I never new there was a difference. When my E brake is engaged the warning light is on. I thought that was normal. I have never seen the light come on when I would brake. But then it wouldn't take someone long to notice something is wrong with the brakes. I like the light on when E brake is engaged, It would stop you from stretching out your cable.

yes, the 76's have a switch on the handle. When I rewired my car I rerouted wires to the switch then to the light.
Also, yes the brake warning lights switch is available, but at the price of about 50 bucks, I thought it was pointless to buy it and wire it back up. I don't need a light to tell me the brakes are bad or going bad, I can tell that easily. As to wiring up the light to parking brake, well, sometimes not everyone thinks properly.

Yes of course Mike you can tell, but I spent so much time and hurt fingers renewing the entire brake system I don't wanna go 1 inch with the e'brake on. My Blazer is also manual trans., very e'brake dependent (starter, headlites, rear hatch etc) and thanks to its warning light I've never forgotten to release it.
Thanks Ken and Duane :) I'll research fitting a late e'brake handle, or maybe the switch is mountable to the existing one; we'll see. Meantime I'm OK with the monitor thing I wired, so I know the 40 yr old stoplight switch is working. It was stuck when I got the car; a cleaning and lube fixed it. I have a new spare one but it sure looks flimsy and cheap.
As for the original purpose of the fail light; I had FOUR cars with the exact same system (2 BMW 2-series, 1 Alfa Spider, 1 '68 MGB RD) and every one of'em did nothing but leak and eat paint. Like I need a light to tell me the brake pedal's hit the floor?
