I have a 70 MGB with the stow-away top. I'd like to convert it to a removable top that I can stow in the trunk. Is it possible to just remove my existing top from the stow-away frame and use the existing top over an old set of removable bows ?

Will the top be reasonably tight ?

the top will not work the packaway frame and the stowaway frame bows are different the stowaway top is smaller. you will not be able to extend the rear bow on the packaway frame and even with it not up you may not be able to latch it at the windshield

By stow-away top, do you mean folding??
I thought the folding top was taller than the pack away...

sorry my bad the folding top is the stowaway the one in the truck is packaway frame to make things clear........i just know from experience that they will not interchange. I have tried tooke the top off the folding frame and put on the folding one and there is no way in in the world it would even come close to attaching at the windscreen......the only way it would attach to the windscreen is if the rear bow of the packaway one was not up in position. I have tried with 2 different stowable tops and it wont work

Thanks Brian. Thought I'd check before ruining a perfectly good top... I like the look and feel of the car with the top off, I'm guessing I'd need to get an older style top and bows ?

Correct. The bows, you can get from Moss or VB (or on eBay for maybe a little less $$$). The top ain't cheap, though, so unless you need a new one now you may want to check on the prices.

By the way: Welcome aboard. :D

Yes i like the look without the top in the cockpit, of course now i have no top at all seeing it rotted away...what folding frame do you have the grey sissor type that folds to the middle. i had that one if thats the one you have one of the reasons for the change to the earlier packaway. The grey frame is a real PITA

oh BTW welcome aboard and to the madness....lol

It's the other way around. Removable tops are taller.

Converted my 77 to removable top and had to purchase new top made for pack-away frame. Easy project looks much better and gives room behind seat to carry stuff.
