I was looking to install an electronic ignition for my 78 Midget. I don't know if the distributor is original. My manual says I should have a Lucas 45D. But I checked last night, took the cap off and along the edge of the dist. I can see 25D.
My question is I have been reading that there can be some problems with the install for a 25D, too tight of a fit inside of the distributor.
I am looking to buy one from a member here and I just want to be sure that what I buy will work, even though it may take a little more effort. Any input is greatly appreciated.
And yes, I know, I should take my distributor and send to Jeff. :)

Umm? 25D what engine in your midget I think only 1275cc midget had the 25D with points and condenser.

I ran a 25D on my 79 for 6 years. I put a pertronix in it. After the engine was rebuilt my mechanic installed a pertronix dizzie.

Ran points type on mine for awhile when first got it. At that time could not afford new ignition module. Finally put the correct one in it. Crane xr7000 also.
Start by putting the correct rotor in there. Yours looks like its for a 45D. yes, the XR700 ir XR3000 will fit, but its a bit of a fiddly job to get it to fit properly and not prevent the vacuum advance from functioning. The problem is when the module hits the distributor cap as the vacuum advance makes the breaker plate rotate, stopping it from moving. I'd install the Pertronix LU-142A and call it a day.
Anyone have pictures and/or helpful hints on installing the shutter and light sensor? I'm getting ready to go the XR700 route (because I already have 2 of them!). This is the only part that has me nervous. Currently converting the car to negative earth, largely do put in the Crane.
Just follow the instructions (page 13) step by step. Its that easy!
