Hey guys,

I have installed a Weber DGV carburator to my 1976 mgb. I am considering installing an late model PCV valve to the base of the air filter and rerouting the side crankcase vent and rocker cover vent to the carburator via the pcv valve. My oil filler cap is non vented. Currently the valve cover vent runs over to the Fuel evaporator canistor but from the looks of it I can't see it is providing any useful service purpose. Does anyone have any ecperience with this.

I'd suggest not routing the crankcase vent to the carb. About the only thing that can happen is oil/mist might blow into the air filter someday when something doesn't go just right. Buy a nice chrome mini filter and stick it on top of the vent tube.

I routed the vent nipple from the side cover to the nipple on the air cleaner using rubber pcv hose and a piece of copper tubing. I placed one of the small air cleaners that Steve mentioned on the valve cover nipple so I would be drawing "filtered" air into the crankcase.

I acutally have no problem with the oil mist entering the air cleaner unless the engine is having a real problem. You have to remember that the stock SU's (our car is a "71) had the vent line from the front side cover running into the base of the carbs.

The valve cover vent hose should run to the charcoal canister and the oil separator vent tube should run to the carb. The valve cover vent hose will be restricted, and should be, if the valve cover is stock. If you put a filter on top of the oil separator tube you will have oil mist all over your engine bay, unless you are very retentive in changing the filter.
