I went out to check the oil the other day and the dip stick and the tube it is inserted into BOTH came out of the block. I carefully cleared any debree around the exposed hole, removed the dip stick from the tube, wiped the tube down and reinserted it into the engine block.
QUESTIONs:
Is the standard dip stick tube simply a flare tube? Is it suppose to be a simple straight tube at the end it enter the block?

Mine has a flared tube approx. 4 1/2" long. My tube came out during rebuild. I used JB Weld to hold it in place, it has held for 2 years.
Thanks Craig. I just wasn't sure if it was standard as I couldn't find a good illustration of it!
Mine does the same thing. I just let it go in and out with the dipstick because I'm too lazy to care. It will probably stay that way for several years before I glue it in. :D

For some reason I find that hard to believe.
:)
Believe it! I'm one of those weirdos that swear a car will sometimes fix itself. In fact it just happened again yesterday. The left turn signal on my '67 B daily driver that hasn't worked in a year and a half, that I was too lazy to fix, suddenly started working again. I can't count how many times things that didn't work started working again all by themselves, and never gave another lick of trouble. I don't expect the dipstick tube to suddenly not pull out with the dipstick anymore, though. I'll have to glue that one... some day. :D
Hi Willaim i have had the same problem myself. I found the best solution to place tube in hole and give it a sharp knock with a rubber mallet. It sends tube home without distorting it
